I've been ragging on him since week two... It's now time to give Hightower the majority of plays. Edge is done and if he continues to recieve the majority of running plays, will hurt this team in the end.
He is still a wise veteran and picked up a few blitzes today that allowed Kurt to make completions - we don't know if Hightower would have doen the same. However, how much easier would these wins be if we actually had a credible threat take handoffs from Warner??
Edge has been a warrior, but it's time...

I think everyone knows Hightower will be getting more and more carries. I doubted that he could be a true feature back, but he is winning me over. I'd be comfortable staying pat at RB next year and making Hightower the starter. At least on 10/12/08 I am.
That said, Edge should've been in on the third down play where Ware sacked Warner late in the game. It looked like Hightower should've picked up Ware, but ran right past him. Even if he was going out on a route, he at least needed to chip him.

Hightower would need some more time to be polished up. I think it will be a little premature. Let him learn the NFL pace without unneeded pressure.

I'm truly torn about this. EJ has proven to be a fantastic team player who gives it his all. His lack of speed does at times put the Cards at a disadvantage but his leadership and determination adds a ton to the team. The Cards do need to add some team speed to the offense and the obvious position is at RB. If we had a Sproles, Westbrook, Jones etc then opposing teams would simply pi$$ themselves.
Hightower should be our EJ and a faster more complete back take over as the starting RB. Tough to say but IMHO the truth.

Exactly!
That sack was entirely on ToP.
Edge may not be a burner but he will pick up that block and every other one.
Edge and his salary have no business being on this team next year. We're a playoff team IMO right now - if we can take his money and actually add to the team, even adding someone at RB to replace him, we'll be better off.
the man is a warrior, but he's finished.

Edge is a very savvy and hard working player. I believe we still need his toughness. I'm all for TH getting increased carries and goal line situations but we cannot dump Edge right now.

Next year, yes, especially if we continue to see improvement in TH as the season progresses.

Do you think Hightower has no chance to succeed him Cheesy? Because with each passing game I truly believe we have already found our replacement! In the 5th round too. WOW!

I was going to start a thread just like this. It's painfully obvious that Hightower is the better fit for the running game. I can see why Edge is playing but Hightower can make this offense go even better. I think Whiz is just slowly phasing James out over the year. It's no rip on Edge just that RB's get old and, while he's durable,he lacks the burst.
I understand Edge's veteran leadership and his great ability to pick up the blitz. That sounds to me like he'd be a perfect for for a 3rd down back. Let Hightower get the majority of the carries and Edge can be the third down back who protects Warner from blitzers.
At this point, I want TH getting the majority of the carries with Edge and Arrington getting the same number of carries (4-6).
Isn't JJ looking alot better this season? Let's give him a chance to prove he can be the speed option that all of us want to see in this offense.
