I dunno I have seen Edge get stonewalled in short yardage situation while being here on many occasions. Has Timmy been stopped yet at the goal line or in a 3rd and 1 situation? He has a better nose for finding the available hole IMO.

I agree with the Tower of Power getting more reps and Edge getting less.

I'm not sold releasing Edge in the offseason because of J.J. being a free agent and the danger of injury to running backs in this league. Even if we draft a speed back next year I can make a case for keeping Edge at a reduced salary.

If you remember the play where Kurt hit Breaston on a big 3rd down and Steve got like 22 yards on it. Kurt was moving right with Tim in front of him and the defense was so concerned with Tim that the guy who should have been covering Breaston underneath stepped up to take away Tim, that's why that play worked.

If that's Edge I don't think he steps up, that's what we get from Tim and JJ that we don't get from Edge, fear of their speed. Not that either guy is Carl Lewis mind you just that teams know Edge can't run past them, they at least worry JJ or Tim might.

I don't think Tim is ready to be the every down RB he still has some issues with blocking and remember he had a fumble issue not that long ago, I think the coaches are being cautious and slowly making the change.

There was one pickup Edge made yesterday that stood out for me. Thomas came up the middle, unblocked (there was a lot of unblock-ing going on yesterday). James drove up on him and allowed Warner to complete a pass.

Until another running back on the roster shows that kind of heart and smarts, Edge is worth every penny of his fat salary.

We can't know what would have happened on that play if Warner took a big hit, but my gut says it wouldn't have been good.

Yeah I have to DISAGREE!!!! Our season rides on one pair of shoulders imho, Kurt Warner and I WANT the best RB on our team which is still Edge protecting those shoulders. Look we are a strong passing team not a running team we need a RB that is a veteran and smart and can pick up all the blitz or guys coming after Warner. TH looks good in limited play, Edge has proven he CAN be the everydown back and still pick up the blocks he needs too. We need to keep doing what we are now pass, pass, and run once in awhile to keep the D honest. TH has a future with us its just not the time now.

I like the transition rate; give Hightower time to watch and learn between his touches.

Edge still has fuel in the tank, but it isn't jet fuel, it's diesel. He still runs strong and get positive yards and does all the "little" things like an all-pro; the little things that Touchdown Timmay needs to master.

OT- jet fuel and diesel are closer to similar than dissimilar, in fact, some desiel engines can run off jet fuel well. Some planes even offer diesel-powered aircraft.

I guess the difference in running backs can be on a gradient as fine.

I agree with all of this + the FACT that Edge is the most durable RB in the league now. I think he is going on 40 straight games. Name another that has played so many in a row. Matter-of-fact, name me a nother decent back who has played half as many in a row.

Yup! Plus there is the dreaded rookie wall that first-year players hit because of the long, long NFL season, training camp and getting ready for the combine. Keep Timmy and Edge fresh by not over-using either, and while you're at it, get J.J. some reps in the no-huddle and on third down.

For a guy his size Edge sure does keep on driving after he is hit. He is still strong enough to carry the ball when needed. As it is we are primarily a passing team. With Fitz, Boldin, and Breaston and Kurt passing we will remain a passing team. We have no breakaway runner. Passing short to Boldin is like a run. Fitz is in world of his own. I have never seen a receiver of his size who has the moves and the ability to jump in a crowd and catch the ball. You can talk about T.O. and some of the others but I am not so sure that Fitz is not the best receiver in the NFL. I thought we were crazy when we drafted him #1 at the three hole. Was I ever wrong. DG knew what he was doing in this case and Fitz is his legacy.

Respectfully diagree. We have the best short yardage back that I can remember.

Does anyone else just feel a sense of calm when its 3rd and 1? He hasn't not picked up one yet.

As for Edge not starting that is not going to happen this year. Hes too much of a leader in the locker room and the coaching staff and team respects him too much. Its politics and probably the way it should be. He does alot of little things the casual fan doesn't see so I don't see it changing until after off season.

He'll be cut next offseason. Then we need to bring in a speed back.

If we are going to be a pass heavy team, I want Edge out there most of the time. When we are going to run, I would like Hightower to get the load. Perhaps we should run a lineup with Edge and Hightower together more often a-la Bush and McCalister.

Lets just get Edge his ring this year and we will figure out what to do later.

Agreed.

Next year being the key phrase.

Personally, I think we stick with Edge being the starter for the rest of this season. Let's not go Troy Hambrick on ourselves. It is a diferent world when you are "the man"

We sre the highest scoring team in the NFC. Don't change a damn thing.
Edge has his role. I'll worry about next year, next year.
