Donte Stallworth is a FA
Shefter reports that NE has chosen not to pick up his option for 2008.

Would be nice to get for stretching the field purposes. But too much money. And if I'm not mistaken has a case of the dropsies

You're not going to find a #3 who is perfect. That's why they're a #3 and not a #1.
We could do worse than Stallworth, but we could do better. I would prefer to pickup someone who has the potential to significantly improve. I feel that Stallworth has already maxed out.

If he'd take an incentive-laden deal close to the vet minimum, then sure, why not. I still wouldn't consider our #3 WR position settled, though.

He'll easily be a number two somewhere and that's the kind of money he'll likely get. I think he may even be considered as a number 1 for a handfull of teams.
There's no way he plays for a base of vet min....depending on the incentives, AZ is a hard place for a #3 to get looks.

You wouldn't??!
Oh, man. If we managed to get Stallworth here for a sweet deal I'd not only consider it settled, I'dconsider our #3 WR one of the best in the league.

I'm just saying that you can't count on him for a full season. We'd still have to have a viable #3 option for the games he can't play in.

You can say that for every position on the field. It's just not realistic.

LOL some of you guys make me laugh the cards would cream themselves if they could get stallworth. He is the speed guy this team has been missing. He can def stretch the field. He is gonna be a 2 somewhere next year, and will be paid like so.

Just too much of a risk to count on for me, then.
Man, am I starting to shed my label of the guy who always wants the castoffs

Donte Stallworth = a flashy Bryant Johnson. If anything, Stallworth is likely even less dependable in clutch situations.

We don't have the cap space to be spending money on the strongest position on our team IMO.

Exactly. If Whiz plans on us being a power running team, the 3rd wr is probably the least important priority on the shopping list.

Lets have one of our WR's be healthy all year before we start saying its the strongest position. What happens this year if Fitz or Q get hurt AGAIN, who is it gonna be Urban out there? I would say if Dansby is resigned then LB is our strongest position that and DT. We have too many injuries at WR to not get a 3rd WR in FA.

Last week on a morning talk show, Graves mentioned the team feels they have plenty of money already allocated to the position.
If we go looking for help, I see it coming via draft in the 2nd day...

Remember back to when Donte Stallworth was in the draft? I remember fans salivating over the chance to draft him. Here is what he's done in his six year career.
http://www.nfl.com/players/donte'...e?id=STA280100
The first WR chosen in 2002, the 13th pick overall. Has not had a single 1,000 yd + season and never scored more than the 8 tds he did as a rookie.
Played for 3 teams, all of whom were glad to see him go.
In year 7, he'll be on his 4th team. By all measures, how do you spell BUST another way? DONTE.
