Don't know: we don't have much snow and ice in Central Texas.
Dust storms and humidity haven't caused much trouble though.

I have had Directv in Louisville, Baltimore, and now Harrisburg, PA.
NEVER have I had a problem with Snow or Ice. Honestly, unless the snow is really sticky, it usually falls off the dish because of the angle.
In an ICE storm, it really never got so bad that it knocked out any signal. I have had ICE collect over 2 inches on my car, but never had TV go out unless the cloud was super dark. In fact the ONLY time I have an issue is when a really bad storm cloud passes through the dish's line of sight. Then it will go dark during the time it takes the storm to pass over.
Honestly, in the 10 years I have had Directv, I have never been without signal for more than 45 minutes at a time except for the Hurricane/Tropical Storm that passed over Baltimore in 2003 or 2004. I was down for about 2 hours that night..... but really, I wasn't worried about TV at that moment. The funny story about that storm was that Comcast lost cable service for almost a week after that storm passed through. I had service by the end of the night.
In the end....... Directv is the shiznit. Sunday ticket is so addictive that the only way I will leave is if Verizon FIOS gets it. And Directv's customer retention department is BY FAR the best in any telecommunications industry in America.

I don't feel like going back through all the posts so...I understand that Directv is adding more HD channels but that you have to change equipment or something to be able to receive them. Is that part of what you guys have been talking about?
Either way anyone know what the story is there?

Yep, that's what we're talking about. And inspired by this thread, I called and got Sunday Ticket with the SuperFan thrown in for free.

I'm not getting the ticket this year. I used to have it because it was a no-brainer on saving money over going to the bar every sunday. Now that it's more expensive and I drink less than I did, I think I can do it cheaper at the bar.
...plus, I don't have to kick the family out of the house on sundays.

Got my HR20 in January (yes, just AFTER the football season, smart timing ). Never had any problems with it. I was scared also because of the problems I had with the R15, but none at all with the HR20. From what I read on dbstalk, problems are nearly as big since a recent software update.

Here's some more info I've found about Sunday Ticket HD:
Quote:
NFL 2007 In HD
For the coming NFL season, the FOX network will continue to broadcast up to 6 NFL games per Sunday in 720p High Definition. The CBS network announced on 4/24/07 that they will broadast up to 6 NFL games per Sunday in 1080i High Definition.
Here’s how the season works out:
NFL 2007.......1080i-HD...720p-HD...480i-SD
CBS (AFC)...........100...........................7
ESPN (MNF) ......................17...............
FOX (NFC).........................99.............. 8
NBC(SNF).............17...........................
NFLNET..................8......................... ...
Total...................125.......116............ 15
A week-to-week review of the NFL 2007 Schedule shows us:
1. We will now have 94% of the NFL 2007 Season Games in HD.
2. Of the 256 games played this year, only 15 will be braodcast in SD.
3. Through the season, FOX which has the NFC, will have only 8 SD games.
4. Through the season, CBS which has the AFC, will have only 7 SD games.
5. Weeks 1, 5, 6, 9, 12 and 15 will be 100% HD -- zero SD games for those 6 weeks.
HD Games for the season, on a weekly basis:
Week 1: 16 of 16 games in HD
Week 2: 14 of 16 games in HD
Week 3: 14 of 16 games in HD
Week 4: 13 of 14 games in HD

For the network that doesn't have the doubleheader, the usual choice for non-HD is the least popular late game. With the doubleheader, it's usually an early game.
Week 2: The Seattle/Arizona game is up against Minnesota/Detroit. I like our chances.
Week 3: My money is on Arizona/Baltimore getting the SD treatment.
Week 4: It's a late doubleheader game (and Whis v Pitt). I like our chances.
Week 7: Arizona/Washington: I don't like our chances.
Week 8: Bye
Week 10: Corallary to the late doubleheader rule: If it's Detroit/Arizona, count on SD.
Week 11: I'd like to think that Arizona/Cincinnati would be better than Carolina/Green Bay.
Week 13: Outlook awful. Late, non-doubleheader, Cleveland.
Week 14: I like the Arizona/Seattle better than Minnesota/San Francisco.
Week 16: Safe: SD game is on other network.
Week 17: I like our chances for HD on this game.
To sum up, with 15 games in SD, I predict the Cardinals lead the league again with 4 in SD, 12 in HD. Put another way, with 9 possible changes to put us in SD, I think the networks will seize the opportunity 4 times.

Directv would only give me the superfan for $25 off. I told them to stick it. I also let them know that at the current rate of increase for the ticket alone, that I'm probably going back to watching in bars next year. At that point, I'm not sure if I stick with Dtv at all. The ticket is the main reason I keep their service at all.

So far, the Cards are 0 for 2. SEA/ARI was SD and so will ARI/BAL (the only Fox game to be SD for week 3.
At least we'll be in HD once the bye weeks start (hopefully).

Big CORRECTION on this Thread.
The game WAS broadcast by FOX in HD. I watched it at home here in Seattle in beautiful HD.
This was DIRECTV's decision not to air the game in HD, so direct your complaints to DTV.

i don't believe it was HD, but widescreen SD as it was being shown to such a small market
anyhow........ I need to call DTV and see if I can get an upgrade on my HD DVR and also to see if they'll give me superfan
i buy 3 sports packs and the HD package - it's ridiculous to pay an extra $100 just to watch a game in Hd......
Brat - did you just talk to a customer rep or did you ask for the mysterious retentions department?
