It’s difficult to figure out why the Arizona Cardinals are 4-2, with a strong two-game lead in the weak NFC West going into their bye this weekend.
When they won their first two games of the season, no one really paid attention because the wins came against San Francisco and Miami. Then they played so-so in a loss at Washington, and then the Jets dropped 56 points on them.
So we have the same old mediocre, inconsistent Cardinals, right? Not quite. At home the past two weeks, they throttled previously undefeated Buffalo, 41-17, and then really got on the contender’s map with their 30-24 overtime victory over NFC juggernaut Dallas on Sunday.
Pendergast’s trademark in four-plus years in Arizona has been the way his unit attacks, relentlessly going after the big plays—sacks, tackles for loss, interceptions, forced fumbles. The defensive line is the best and deepest group he has had, and it shows as eight Cardinals have at least one sack this season.
Which makes you wonder why the Cards go into that soft non-aggressive prevent whenever they have a lead in the 4th quarter.
