Claude Wroten arrested on felony drug possession

One of the better late first 2nd round DT's in the draft, is in some deep trouble, and will fall like a rock on draft day. How hard is it for draftee's to stay clean until they are drafted, I mean its only 4 months away.

NCAA | Police and courts: Claude Wroten
Thu, 5 Jan 2006 11:52:33 -0800

"Jordan Blum, of the Shreveport Times, reports Louisiana State All-American senior DT Claude Wroten was arrested late Wednesday, Jan. 4, on charges of felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Wroten was pulled over for speeding and was asked if he had anything illegal in the car, to which he admitted having marijuana for personal consumption. Wroten also had $4,000 in his pocket, which he claimed was on loan from his financial adviser to prepare for NFL training. "

I really like Wroten a lot and think this will drop him to the fourth or fifth round. I thought before this he was going to be a 2nd round selection, but after facing these charges it is going to be hard for him to be drafted on the first day.

I ended up watching a few LSU games and was very impressed and I also believe he is the best DT coming out of the draft this year over Ngata, and Wright. Wright seemed to only play good against certain teams and Ngata looked to lazy for me. In addition I was also very impressed on how he played the run and how he could take on the double teams very well. At 310Lb's he might be underweight for the Big NT we are looking for, but I would definitly use a 4th rounder on him.

Here is his Pros and Cons

Pros: Great jump off the snap, and a great penetrating tackle. Also stout in run defense and has solid tackling technique when he gets into the backfield often to blow up plays. Has been part of a top LSU DL the past 2 years.

Cons: A JUCO transfer and doesn't have as much football experience as many. LSU has been putting defensive linemen into the NFL like no other the last few years, including Jarvis Green, Marquise Hill, and Marcus Spears, so one has to wonder whether the defensive system has something to do with it.

I looked it up and he faces 5-30 and/or a 50K fine, He'll be damn lucky to dodge signifigant prison time.

Man I agree! How stupid can he be. Why in the world would he have drugs in his car when he is so close to having his entire future handed to him on a silver platter with a big fat NFL contract. Most people would give most anything to have a chance at millions of dollars. There is always plenty of time for him to do drugs if that is his choice when his football carreer is over.

The other thing on this is I didn't see what amount of pot he was carrying in the article. There is a big difference in someone having a quarter of an ounce on them and ten pounds. if he had pounds then he might do some time, if it was a small amount then he will just get probation. Either way he just lost any chance of being drafted in the first round and most likely will not be drafted on the first day. I hate to see young people screw up there future, especially when they get such a great chance in life like he has.

Irvin has already contacted Wroten; something about "hooking - up".
