Cards only team to not make a trade in the draft?
Gregg Easterbrook had this to say in his TMQ column this week:
Quote:
|
Frequent Flyer Pick of the Year: Choice No. 93 was held by four teams -- traded from Denver to Atlanta to Green Bay to St. Louis. There were 23 total trades of the 33 choices in the third round. Of the 32 NFL clubs, only Arizona simply went 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 with its original picks.

Someone's got to ask DG whether he's sent out a "thank you' card to all the teams who drafted for need.
If every team drafted according to the "best player available " philosophy, guys like Lutui, Pope, Watson, Johnson and Lewis would have all come off the board well before we picked.
By refusing to trade and "waiting for the draft to come to us", DG and RG have been able to steal terrific value-picks in three consecutive drafts.
It's a beautiful thing.

Very beautiful thing - Green seems to have mastered the art of not panicking, letting the other teams run around like chickens with their heads cut off, and reaping the rewards.

But don't you think this was the last time this was possible. The depth on this team is getting very very good, so I could see us using a similar strategy as the Eagles and Steelers use next year.
I think the Eagles' draft was a awesome. Bunkley slided down to them in the first and then they traded up to fill their biggest need both in the 2nd and 4th, where they got Justice and Gilles.
