Cardinals need a Ricky Proehl type receiver

After watching all the playoff games today, I noticed one particular trate among all teams receiving corps. They all had atleast one guy, who was not a primary receiver, not particularly fast...but had excellent hands

The dude, Bennett who plays for the Titans was awesome, and I am absolutely in love with Brandon Stokely of Indy. I was impressed when he was in B-more too.

The team can't go another season with Gilmore as their go to guy when the other receivers are double teamed. However, I think Nate Poole can ease into this position, he has GREAT hands

We have something these other teams don't at the TE position. I think Freddie Jones can fill the same role you're talking about. He doesn't drop very many passes and can be just as effective a weapon as a Ricky Proehl type guy - - perhaps more so because of the mismatches he creates. I think Gilmore is more of the Az Hakim type player in that he is small and pretty fast. I just wish he ran crisper routes and displayed better hands. BTW, I am not as down on Gilmore as many of the people on this board.

I agree with you about Jones and actually I have forgotten about him. Last year they needed him blocking so much that he was an afterthought in the passing game. If Green can get an O-line coach in here that can get some results, I believe Jones will once again be one of the top TE in the game

Well iif you look back at the vikings offense under Green the TE was an effective tool. Sure they had Jake Reed and Carter early and then Carter and Moss but I believe his hame was andrew Jordan and didn't Johnny McWilliams go there a season or two and Green got more production out of him than we ever did.

We dont need just a Ricky Proehl. The Card's need a whole new team! Come on! The only Above average player they have is Anquan.

phill11 i think you need to take a big does of our new medicine Mr. Dennis Green. We have talent and more then just the great and mighty quan. I think we had a ricky proehl type reciever at one time his name was....oh yea it was ricky proehl. Green has his plan and he will impliment it sucessfully in the offseason. Its not only landing the key big name free agents but landing the RIGHT role players that want to play here. Our problem in the past is we would overpay anyone who would come here and most people only came because of the money and not because they wanted to be here.

Hey guys, we can ignore anyone who hasn't even gone through puberty yet. Phill probably still has a high pitched voice, and a whisker or two on his chin.

If he knew anything about NFL football, he would realize that teams aren't that far in talent in today's game.

They have one and his name is Poole, though I believe he's a UFA. When has this guy ever played badly? I have seen him drop one ball. I McCown found him open several time on key downs, not to mention the end of the Vikes game. He is exactly that type of receiver.

I agree. He has never looked "bad" in any game situation.

He needs to be used more effectively, and hopefully coach Green will give him the opportunity. If we can add an effective veteran with speed like Steve Smith or Darrell Jackson, this wide receiver corps could be effective immediately, especially with a solid role player like Poole in the 4th or 5th slot.

Nathan Poole (and a few of us might argue) Kevin Kasper are our Ricky Proehls.

I agree we have a couple. Kasper and Poole. now the loyal committee is gone. Maybe they'll get their shot again.

His name was STEVE Jordan, and he was an all pro for several years when Green came to Vikings. Mike Tice also played there at the same time.

Don't be surprised to see Green use the TE's a lot.

....and everyone keeps overlooking the obvious.....we have the "ultimate plus" Proehl .......his name is Anquan.!!!!!

In fact I'd say we have more "possession" type receivers than anything.....what's lacking is the legitimate deep threat to help "stretch the field" more.

Gilmore and McAddley are the ones that seem to have the speed there.....but haven't shown the consistant productivity yet.

McAddley?? .....not sure what's going on with him....everyone was so high on him coming into the season. In fact, I felt a lot were overly annointing him with "insufficient evidence". Did he end up riding the pine JUST because of injury?

Gilmore??......I totally disagree with all those claiming he has such "bad hands", and is a poor route runner. There is a reason Sulllivan has been so high on him...and I'd venture to say his route running, and "hands" are part of why Sully does like him.
For some reason he just hasn't seemed to get much "separation" and may be getting manhandled by CB's due to his lack of "physical presence. "

If the Cards had a Ricky Proehl type they would either cut him or let him go Free Agent. Ricky has caught 320 passes and 21 TDs since he left here. Guess he was washed up.

McAddley was on IR for the season. I don't remember if he was put on the list before the season started, or a couple of games in.
