Cardinals | Expressed interest in Foote
Cardinals | Expressed interest in Foote
Wed, 06 May 2009 13:05:00 -0700
The Associated Press reports the Arizona Cardinals expressed interest in LB Larry Foote before he decided to sign with the Detroit Lions.
Love how we look more often now a days to upgrade this team instead of always "standing pat" ....

So we could look to Foote for help but we didn't need laboy or Hood? I dont get it I guess. If we really want an ILB Marcus Washington is still a FA.

Different positions. LaBoy is an ROLB. Foote played primarily RILB for the Steelers.

Understood, I was just wondering why backup ILB was a higher priority than starting OLB or CB when our lack of pass rush and a weak secondary just cost us a Super Bowl ring.

Not much. He had the Dansby role in Pitt, from what I understand.
We need a vet backup at ILB, necessitated by the departure of Beisal.

Really ?
I thought Farrior was the WILB in Pit.
But I am not sure of it, so I won't question it. ......actually it makes sense since Farrior has so many tackles.

In passing; must say that a player willing to seek a release from a longer term deal to sign a one year agreement in Detroit... really, really wants to go home.

Nothing. The Cards will play more 3 -4, which means 2 inside LB's. In addition, I expect them to move Dansby all over the field (i.e. when Karlos moves to OLB, we'd need another ILB and that could be Foote).
Plus, inside LB is a smashmouth position where players tend to have short shelf lives. Nothing wrong with having an experienced #3 guy to rotate with Hayes and Dansby.
Too bad we couldn't make it happen.

As I see it, teams like the Dolphins, with their 1-15 record to a playoff birth the next, show that winning can happen fast in the NFL.
I see Detroit as a team with problems, but not insurmountable ones.
Foote makes that team a little better and they could be a "surprise" team.

You're right, Farrior is much closer to Dansby, the Steelers actually took Foote out on passing downs and is very different from Dansby as far as an ILB.

Why must so many players we look at/sign have to be Steeler castoffs anyway? I thought Whis wants the team to have it's OWN identify, not be the Seelers Jr.?
Besides, Foote would not have come here anyway he really, really wanted to go play for his hometown team in his final years.
