"BULLWINKLE" & the Prevent the WIN Defense...
I am savoring the WIN as we all are! ...And I'm sure this euphoric feeling will last a good week and a half... BUT as we think ahead just a bit to the rest of the season we're probably thinking what can we do to get better?? That's one of the reasons I REALLY like Whiz' leadership and how the players are adopting the mantra of Keep working--GET BETTER.
BUT here's the thing. GREAT Defensive scheme by Pendy yesterday. The Cowboys admitted after the game that there was confusion. I do think that when you're missing a "starter" from your line as Dallas was, the 1st game after is the MOST difficult. There's a bit of uncertainty about the "roles" of each player. The Cards capitalized on this and Romo was constantly on the run. My point is WHY do you play "aggressive" for (58) minutes and then play "soft" at the end of the game?? You're getting pressure with (4) lineman the whole game so you go to (3) and give the QB MORE time?? WHY?? For an extra defender?? Who now has to chase down a "gazelle" in the open-field?? I can see keeping one of your BEST tacklers a little deeper as a last line of Defense but that's it. I have been watching this "prevent" nonsense for many years now. IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!! Once in awhile, sure, BUT MOST times the other team scores and then you have to sweat out the on-side kick. ...AND if you fumble that then you're looking at a game-winning or game-tying FG from 40-50 yards!! It just makes me think of "Bullwinkle" saying over and over "This time for sure"!! GO CARDS!!
