Another Training Camp Report for 8/10/05

Quick sidenote - I'm not the best at picking out cover zones and all that jazz, so this report may be a bit vanilla for some of you hardcore fans.

Morning Practice:

OFFENSE:
Kurt looked pretty sharp this morning. Some of his long balls were a tad behind the receiver, but he made some GREAT passes to BJ and Fitz. He was definitely a leader out there - he even corrected Quan about something. He was always checking to make sure his RB's were in the right spot, and told them where to go if they werent in the right spot.

Speaking of BJ, this guy is absolutely lighting up camp. Him and Warner are definitely on the same page.

Boldin ran the drills with the guys, without his helmet or nose patched up. He did not participate in the actual contact stuff with the defense. (but did in the afternoon practice). His cuts were very sharp.

Bergen caught almost everything coming his way.

Scobey was running with all the teams - 1st, 2nd, 3rd throughout the day (Did some punt catching too - dropped one and got some ear for it)

Neil Rackers was again booming kicks. I love that guy!

DEFENSE:

The first thing I noticed about the defense is how LOUD they are. These guys, especially the 1st team, are just IN YOUR FACE. It is great. During the drills, I noticed Berry hyping up his guys by jumping in the air and bashing shoulders. That got everyone pumped up.

Rolle - He did not participate in the defense drills, he mainly listened to one of the coaches the whole time. But once they faced the offense, he started out with 2nd team and then got some action with the 1st.

Huff - This guy is good - He was everywhere this morning.

Zellner was out and did not participate in the drills.

Evening Practice

OFFENSE:

Kurt again looked sharp - more passes to BJ and Fitz.

McCown looked alright in the morning, but in the afternoon I noticed a couple balls that were thrown behind the receivers.

Boldin practiced with everyone during the O vs D.

Bergin had a LOT of reps with the 1st string - personally I think he looked pretty sharp - I didnt see him drop one ball.

Dan Sheldon again was catching punts (with JR and someone else I forget) and running with the 3rd string Offense. He is really fast... but also REALLY small.

Rackers - booming kicks - the #2 kicker barely made it past the 10 yard line each time

Marcel, JR and Scobey mixed it up with the 3rd and 2nd teams (and maybe 1st a few times). Personally I did not see much of JJ... maybe I just wasnt looking when he was running.

DEFENSE:

Rolle - He got some reps with both the 2nd and 1st string - He had a great diving play in which he almost intercepted Kurt.

I dont know if this is a big deal or anything, but Darnell did not participate with the defense in the defense vs defense drills or when the defense when against the 2nd string O. All he did was practice with the DL's when they went against the OL. I saw him talking to Denny for a bit. Not sure if that's a big thing or anything.

Well... that's about it. Kurt, Rolle, Fitz all signed autographs (Fitz had a big line and signed pretty much all of them). Some other guys came over to sign too and all were incredibly nice.

I had a great time, despite the sunburn I got in only about 1 hour of actual sunshine

I took a lot of pics and will try to get some up tonight. Thanks for reading.

These reports are great. Much better than what you get from the local media.

Thanks 32. Can't wait to see the pics.

Darling also looked pretty, good.. had a pick of Warner in the morning scrimmage. I think the linebacker core is going to be very good.. lots of depth.

The defense also uses alot of motion in their schemes, as last yearl, but I think they might have incorperated a little more to confuse offenses.

I do think Warners ball wabble a little, but as long as they get there and don't hang he'll be ok... McCown in the morning looked to throw a better deep ball, his recievers were able to catch in stride and didn't have to slow down and wait for the ball to get to them. However, in drills agains the offense, McCown threw some nice balls but had some that were a little behind his receiver and the defense forced him to throw a couple passes away.

Rolle looked decent in drills, but seemed very tired after the morning practice.. but thats about what you would expect on the first day.

It's probably going to be a few days before Rolle adjusts to the altitude. Especially since he's been at sea level (Miami) for the past month or so.

Warner's balls have always wobbled. It's his throwing mechanics. He put's his finger on the tip of the ball which causes that. Supposedly it increases distance accuracy though.
