I think Moose Johnston mentioned it last night. In the 90s the top teams were head and shoulders above the wild card teams. So even coming out flat they would win on talent. With the NFLs newfound parity, it is more important to stay sharp (thus play wild card weekend) and be hot (most wild card teams seem to have to win some absurd number of games such as 5 of thier last 6 to make the playoffs).
Haven't the last 3 SB winners been wild card teams?
