A huge FA signing in the first 2 days

I wonder if the Cards are smoke screening us when they say they are not going after one of the big names. I am going out on a limb here and I say in addition to a couple of the solid names we keep hearing they sign one big time player even if they have to over pay and they do it almost immediately. With the new deal they have an extra 7.5M to spend why not drop it on Edge?

I say they get him in here day one, make him an offer he has to accept before he leaves or they drop it significantly. Land him and people everywhere are talking about the 06 Cards. The other FAs we can afford and want but usually lose to other teams suddenly want to be part of the missing piece and they seriously consider us.

The Cards sell more tickets and even attract more interest from corporate sponsors and increase their advertising & naming rights prospects. This makes absolute marketing sense. What they overpay him they recoup several fold in these revenue streams and by the way we can use a great RB. No other team needs him the way we do.

We can and need to out spend everyone for such a marquee player and if you think about it who are the marquee players? Only the Edge. Olinemen don’t sell tickets, there isn't a healthy Marquee QB available, we don't need a receiver & there really isn't a marquee defensive player that isn't a little tarnished by injury or PR i.e. Arrington, Peterson.

As much as I still want Bently, that would be for football reasons only. He won't turn the tide of optimism nationally the way the Edge would. In fact if we signed the Edge before Bently signs somewhere else it wouldn't surprise me to see him here as well. Like Warner, Edge isn't stupid enough to come here without assurances that we will address the Oline. Bently, Kyle Kosier, and or Milford Brown plus a 1st or second round OT and we're there.

i agree a 110%. i am sure if edge signs here the o-line and blocking scheme will be a major part of the deal. i am sure that james wants to win a super bowl. i am also sure he wants to get paid.

Problem with Edge is his corporate marketability. He doesn't have any. As far as street cred... He is higher on the list.

National commercials???? Nope.
Jerseys???? Yep.

I wouldn't mind a Monday afternoon press conference introducing Bently & Edge.

Then Maake/Sam Adams, & Witherspoon/Peterson, in a week.

4 Players... All difference makers.

Good O Line, Good D' Line... and we become elite.

You sign Edge -- what you say to the local market is this: Things are truly different. We are taking that stadium money and putting into the team. Winning is important.

While we hardcores have seen some evidence that all of the above may be true, the average sports fan in Phoenix doesnt pay close enough attention to discard the too often repeated "Bidwill only cares about money, blah, blah, blah"

This would be wayyyyyyy different that an over the hill Emmitt, or a Kurt Warner that was basically out of opportunities. This would be the highest profile guy to come here perhaps ever.

If Edge walks on the offer I would turn around and give the money to Hutchison. Make Seattle spend more or take him away.

I think the deals would come if he actually came here and led us to the playoffs.

When was the last time the Cardinals signed a FA in the frist week of FA?

Hell when was the last time the signed one in the Second Week?

My money is on them not signing anyone the first few days.

You are right. But reality is, if Edge comes here breaks a leg in the second game of the season and the CArds go on to another 6-10 year, everybody will be saying one thing.......SAME OLD CARDS.
None of it will matter. The efforts , decisions and plans, no matter how well laid, will be completely forgotten unless we win.

Considering Peyton Manning can get national commercials while playing for Indy, Edge wouldn't have a problem getting commercials in a much larger market such Phoenix
