The Denver Broncos have announced the team has acquired a second round pick (No. 37 overall) and a third-round pick (No. 68) in the 2006 NFL Draft from the San Francisco 49ers. In exchange for the picks, Denver sends San Francisco one of their two first round picks (No. 22 overall).

You would think San Fran would want to add more picks considering how bad they are. Pretty good deal for Denver if you ask me.

That's surprising. Just last night Schlereth said on tv that the Broncos were trying to use their 2 first round picks to get Reggie Bush. I don't see how an extra 2nd and 3rd would help them do that?

Could the 49ers be poised to jump up a few spots now? Very interesting.

How's about this then: The 49er's use the new found #1 as leverage to move up to the #1 spot, draft Bush, and have two #1 overall picks clogging some massive cap room.
Alex Smith gets to take turns with Bush getting crushed.
With a lot of the moves the Niners have been making lately, I wouldn't be shocked.

Or maybe they just stand pat and use the 22 on a WR. If they do go that route, they may not want Davis at #6.

Of course it would be stupid to try and plan your #6 pick, before your #22 pick, but you never know........

But I'll bet the Broncos save a bunch of coin in signing bonuses.

No, I think you are right...it doesnt. According to the chart the highest they could move up offering both 1st rounders (6 + 22 = 2380) is the #3 pick (2200).

I really dont get the Niners move here, but I think the idea of DEN saving money makes a lot of sense.

Thats San Fran for you. They had a perfect opportunity to grab a blue chipper, now they blew it like they did last year. Next year they will probably have the #1 pick, maybe they are tryng to insure that. he he

They still have an opportunity for a blue chipper. They have the 6th pick and the 22nd pick.

They could, but it would be nuts - they'd end up with one top pick and no 2nd or 3rd rounder to fill a bunch of roster holes with.

More likely, they realize they probably won't have a shot at Hawk at #6 but still want to keep their options open to grab V Davis or Huff should they be available, while using the later 1st round pick on an OLB (to replace Peterson) from a very deep pool of LB talent.

It's being said that Denver wants to add more picks to use them to pick up Javon Walker.

I dont get it -- if they want Walker -- wouldnt the #22 pick have sealed the deal?
