However -- when the eight drafted players sign, they will bump a $310,000 player currently in the cap out of the top 53. So-- from a cap perspective and how I calculated it above, you add 8 x $310,000 back ( or $2.48 mm )

this would imply a current available cap figure of $5.13 mm ( give or take )
Got the right idea, just not the right execution. Remember the rule of 51. Also remember the 3rd through 7th rounders dont make enough to be in the top 51. So only the 1st and 2nd rounder count against the cap right now and would push only 2 guys out of the top 51.

Current cap space = 6,652,403

Minus estimate cost of 1st and 2nd rounder(1.5 mill) = 5,152,403 cap space left

Add back in the two players that will be kicked out of the top 51 salaries(870k) = 6,022,403 in estiamte cap after rookie contracts.

URBAN today:

Updated cap situation

There's been so much said (much of it by me, to be honest) about the Cardinals' salary cap situation in the wake of the veteran cuts this week. Further investigation has the Cards with a little less than I first figured -- somewhere between $5.3 and $5.4 million. That's why it would really help if LB Karlos Dansby, carrying that $9.7M cap number/salary, would ink an extension that would certainly lower his cap figure.

Joe has been calculating based on $128, I believe.

That may explain the previous discrepancy between his numbers and Urban's numbers.

Not going to update the spreadsheet anymore for the year but I wanted to updated everyone that we have a little over 2 mill in cap space, not the 1.5 mill that Sando gave out when he though Wilsons cap hit was going to be 10.2 when in reality its only just under 9.7.

Graves said in a recent Urban article or blog that we only need about 900k more to sign the rookies (in terms of cap space that is, not total salary). So we still have over 1 mill in insurance injury money to work with. We are just fine in terms of cap space, unless like I said in another thread you still actually falsely believe Boldin will get a new deal this year.

We need an offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and 3 offensive linemen, 2 tackles and a center.
