1/2 way thru the season part 2: standings

Cardinals are 5-3. All 3 other teams in the NFC West are 2-6 after today.

Not counting my chickens, just yet, but I'd rather see the team in this position with a 3 game lead in the loss column over everyone else.

Completely agree with that.

I've been a Cards fan too long to put anything in the bank until the final whistle is blown. I went to the Bears game 2 years ago, so I know!

Still, I like this team a lot right now, and I have hope.

if they win next week, it will take a collapse of 1988 proportions for us to lose the division, which basically means, we'd have to lose Warner just like we lost Lomax.

our division is beyond horrific. 7 wins probably wins this thing. we better win more than 7 games, even if Warner were to god forbid get injured.

We are just one hit away on Kurt Warner at any point for the season to go down the drain. Would we put Matt in there if the rest of the season depended on winning or would we sign an experienced QB? It could go either way depending on how Matt is doing in practice. We are really playing some tough teams down the stretch and will be the underdog in a number of them. What is good for us is that most are home games. Day in day out the Giants are a better team than us but on any given day we have the fire power to beat anyone. Just get us to the playoffs with Warner and our receivers in good health and anything could happen.

That's a pretty ridiculous question. Matt isn't a bad quarterback. He may not be at Kurt's MVP level right now, but there's no doubt in my mind that he'd be leaps and bounds better than a quarterback that has done nothing in our offense.

If we can run the ball like we did today, we can certainly win games with M leinart.

I'm going to pretend you didn't really ask that question...of course we'd put Matt in there without blinking.

The question begs, is Matt able to work the same offense Warner is right now? The most likely answer is no.

And that unusual offense is what has this team succeeding like it has.

Would Warner being injured kill the Cardinal playoff chances? No.

Would it severely change them and make it more unlikely? Probably.

Sorry, but I disagree. The drop-off from Warner to Leinart would be insignificant. Leinart is ready to play right now. If Warner went down, I would expect our offense to be just as good & maybe better. Too many on this board are short-changing Leinart.

Do you watch these football games? Warner is playing LIGHTS OUT. He's up for MVP consideration, is a LOCK for the Pro Bowl, and is playing the best we've seen out of the QB position ever in AZ.

What have you seen out of Leinart that says he'd be able to do that jumping in right now? Matt might be a good QB someday, maybe even this year, but to say he's going to come right in and perform at an MVP level is just ridiculous. If he were capable of doing that, the Cards would've been fielding trade talks from teams all year for him.

Simply a ridiculous notion that he would come in and actually make our offense play better.

The question is how would it change the offense? Warner works for Arizona because he is so accurate and our WRs have great hands but never get open. So our QB has to be right on the money with his throws. Warner does this and then Fitz and Q work their magic.

On the other hand we almost never have any success with deep passes. Could Leinart change that? How would he do now that the Cards have a TD threat at RB? Hopefully we'll never know.

Regardless, we're a lot better off than most NFL teams. Dallas losing Romo is a prime example.

I think That was vs. the giants in wk 12, what week do we play em this year? edit: Kind of kreepy: in 88 it was a home gm. vs. the Giants in wk 11 and this year it is a home gm. vs. The Giants in wk 11!

I agree, we still don't know what we have in Leinart except for his potential. He may play "lights out" when he gets to start again, but to say right now that there would be no appreciable drop in performance if Leinart started, can only be based on conjecture.

The drop off between Warner to Leinart is not insignifigant sorry thats just silly. KW is playing MVP ball something Leinart has never even sniffed in the NFL to say that this team wouldn't miss a beat if we lost Warner is well quite honestly just crazy talk.
