I thought we had a wine thread here, but can't find it. Well, I'll regret turning everyone on to this, but I have been sipping a Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon called Roots1 -- 2005 vintage is what I've had so far -- and it is so yummy! Not a mouth-shakingly big ol' red, but luxurious, rich, buttery and with hints of tobacco, vanilla and just loads and loads of berries, and a nice medium-long finish. Runs around $10-$11.
It is grown on it's own cabernet rootstock, which is extremely unusual -- almost all wines are grafted on to other rootstocks selected for disease resistance, and it does actually affect the quality and taste of the grapes.

I've had that and it is really good. You have a good nose for wine IMO. But when it comes to cheaper stuff nothing beats a Smoking Loon. Try a Smoking Loon anything and you will swear off all other wines under $15 forever.

My favorite wine is Chateau St. Jean Merlot from 2002. Its damn good. $25 - $27 a bottle is more than I usually spend on wine, but this stuff is worth it. They make a less expensive version, which is good, but not as good. That one is around $13 making it more practical.

Wow, zenny! Thanks for the recommendation. I stopped by Cost Plus on my way home today to get some drinks and grabbed a bottle of this on your word.
You are right, this is a really good wine. I especially love the finish! It really lingers and is so soft.
This is some really good stuff...surprisingly well priced!

I'm sipping on a Smoking Loon Cabernet Sauvignon tonight.
I'll keep my eyes open for the Roots1, it sounds good.
Albertson's has Roots1 on sale right now for $8 but it looks like many stores only have the 2006, which I have not tried. The '05 is ready to drink right now. I also got it ('05) at a Basha's -- not AJ's, regular Basha's. BevMo didn't have it. CostCo didn't -- haven't looked at the nearby Cost Plus yet.

they currently have this bottle at costco for around $16 for the large bottle - i've seen this size go for almost double that in wine stores - great deal and I had to pick up a couple
Allegro is another one that is good to try

Tried it, too sweet for me.
I found this Merlot at a local wine shop. One of the best $12 bottles I've had. Mmmm.

WINEMAKER NOTES
Developed and intense fruit from this harvest has produced one of our most full-bodied merlots yet! Deep cherry fruit hits both the nose and palate upon the first sip, followed by soft hints of summer anise. Touches of pipe tobacco and spicy oak lend weight to the finish, trailed by firm, assertive tannins.
