Proper Grill Maintenance

I have a question about gas bbq grill maintenance. I bought my grill about 6 months ago and have enjoyed it thoroughly. However, there is a lot of black grease and fat build up under the grates, which sometimes catch on fire during cooking. I have never done anything to the grill other than scrape the top of the grates with a brush before grilling.

Any thoughts?

my thoughts exactly.

fwiw, I wouldn't even bother with the grill cleaner. Take off the grill, put some newspaper on the ground to catch the stuff that comes off, and scrub it down with a wire brush & you should be good to go.

Maybe using the cleaner every now & again might be cool, but just the wire brush should be enough for most of your cleanings

no need to clean it, just steal one from your neighbor when they move

Yeah I had a major grease fire when grilling steaks last night. Time to clean a little more than just using the wire brush.

I once put my grill thing in the dishwasher

Not good times. Black crap was on every cup for the next 23 washings
