I have seen a few pop up around the Valley recently now I hear commercials for them on the radio.. I know Lennys has a sign there for them, but I just thought it was a type of hot dog.. Now they have restraunts..
I guess I could have googled it, but I wanted to type the word Weinerschnitzel..

Food is cheap and edible. Not much more. Sorry DCR.
Eh.
You got the cheap right, but it's a hot dog. You shouldn't spend an arm and a leg for it anyway.
last time I went I got a dog and some chili cheese fries and a drink for about $4. It is a change of place fast food restaurant that I go to about twice a year.

Judges will accept that it is worthy of a spot in the fast food rotation.
There used to be one in Flagstaff in the early 70s. It was an Alpine-style structure ... I think that's how all of them used to be. It was a great treat to go to the Weiner for a dog with ketchup, mustard, and kraut.
I can't do it now. I'm all about kosher dogs. Won't touch the mystery pork ever again.

California based company been here all my life, used to be called Der Wienerschnitzel but they renamed it because public polls found it to be offensive in a 'Hilter' kind of way. They used to compete with "Pup n' Taco" in southern Cal and soon after the name change "Pup" went out of business.
The claim to fame is the all beef Chili Cheese dog and do not try to figure out what is in that chili... But it is popular, so popular that you can actually buy the chili at the stores. Typically transplanted California can't wait to eat Weinerschnitzel chili chese dogs and In n' Out burgers when they come back to visit... eventhough In n' Out has expanded all over now...
Both of these companies are very nostalgic for Southern California, kind of like Carls' Junior used to be back when they were only in Orange County and Karcher was just Carl Karcher and not CKE and then got overthrown...

I was just going to ask what happened to the "DER".
I find it offensive that it's called wienerschnitzel in the first place. They have no clue what real Wiener Schnitzel is. Come to think of it, they have no clue what a real hot dog is also. These places are the lowest common denominator in the fast food industry. Dirty restaurants, incompetent staff, barely edible food. Real wienerschnitzel is my favorite food whenever I go to Europe. Breaded veal cutlet with some lemon squeezed on it, side of fries. It's the best. (Although in Northern Europe they put gravy on it)
Luckily, if I want a kraut dog, Papoo's Hot Dog Show (SoCal people might be familiar) is right down the street, right across from one of the original Bob's Big Boys (and it's still operating).
