Healthy bread.

I know we're supposed to avoid white bread and eat wheat bread instead but where do other breads rank. Specifically, marble and jewish rye and pumpernickel.

well, if you go eating the seeded rye breads, you know you're going to have a loaf of bread growing in your stomach, right?

Kinda like if you swallow watermelon seeds. I'd stay away.

Look for whole grains, low sugar and high fiber.

...and no High Fructose Corn Syrup.

I heard someone say that if you hit yourself on the arm with your loaf of bread, it should hurt. Otherwise, it isnt a "good" bread.

Try to avoid gluten? In bread? Not impossible, but it's in every bread made with wheat flour, so that eliminates every loaf on every shelf of the grocery store...

Not in a regular grocery store. Anything that says "Potato bread" (in a regular grocery store) is made with wheat flour.

Best bet to avoid gluten is rice flour bread, but that is expensive & hard to come by.

Absolutely right. When the potato breads are derivitives of wheat flour. The one loaf of bread that my ex bought (which was horrible btw) was $9. She decided to not eat bread anymore.....

Spelt flour actually contains gluten, although it is usually highly tolerated. People like DCR's ex, though, couldn't have it, I'd bet.

My nephew has Aspberger's Syndrome, and for awhile he was on a dairy-free/wheat free diet. He could have bread made from spelt flour, no problem.

People with Celiac's Disease (like dcr's ex, Yuma, etc.) can't have anything with even a trace of gluten in it, amongst other things.

So, in general, people with just a wheat allergy can have it, but there are exceptions.
