Wow, are you on a food quest?? There's a really good Korean one in Chandler - Country Club and Elliott (or somewhere around there).

Jon, I've never been there, but there's a place called Xylo I believe that routinely wins all kinds of awards. It's Vietnamese and I want to say it's in Mesa, but not really sure. If I can dig up an article I'll confirm the data...

Udapi Cafe (spelling?) on Scottsdale Rd. on the edge of Tempe gets monumental raves from a couple discerning friends of mine for Indian food. I hope to try it this weekend. I like Jewel in the Crown on the Scottsdale Civic Center, but a lot of people say the best is one of the India/Delhi Palace type places on Bell somewhere in Glendale I think it was.

Well, ate at Udipi, and it was a mixed bag. They serve very large portions, it is all vegetarian, and not expensive. The red chili-paste cauliflower was excellent, and the Dohsa, a huge crisp rice-flour 'crepe' (think a non-sweet fortune cookie a foot across) with potatoes and onions was very good. We had a rice-lentil dish with accompaniments that seemed vaguely Thai-ish, and my friend liked it, but there were some flavors I really didn't cotton to. Maybe I expected Thai and it didn't quite fit. All in all it was fine, people were very nice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again.

jewel of the crown and the other place are probably more of the typical reasturant indian foods (north indian foods)
i take it you ordered at udipi instead of the buffet?
the dosas are good, but yea, with the buffet you can choose the dishes you like
