I started up again last monday and I've lost 1.6 pounds so far.

Hey guys don't just go by how much weight you lose! Go by body fat%. If you haven't worked out at the gym much you could lose 15 pounds of fat and gain 15 pounds of muscle. That's what I really want to do right now. Since I workout regularly though I usually have to do one before the other. Right now I'm going to "cut" lower my calories and then "bulk up" to gain muscle.
Oh and Tango I don't think your requirements are good for most people who want to gain a lot of muscle. I guarantee you the guys on men's health journals that the girls drool over are consuming more than just 70 grams of protein a day. They are probably at least consuming a gram of protein per each pound of lean body mass. I consume at least 30 or 40 grams right after lifting.
I don't agree with Protein being harmful either. I think your body can handle protein just fine and more studies have shown that this is true.
