Abuelo's

http://www.abuelos.com/

Wow. Had this yesterday with the gf and it was fantastic. I usually dont try to pimp restaurants, but if you go there to eat, I would be shocked if you werent impressed with the food.

We both got the Laredo plate, which is a cheese enchilada, a beef enchilada, a choice of taco and a choice of rice or papas con chili (chili potatoes). Erin got the rice for fear that the papas would just be cubed up potatoes and salsa. Well, I was daring and ordered it.

Everything we ate was fantastic, which I mentioned to the manager when he asked us how the food was. We ended up ordering a seperate side of the papas con chile because Erin kept eating mine. They were like a cheesy, creamy mash potatoes with tons of spices and chili. Not too hot, but absolutely fantastic.

Very affordable too at just under $30 with tip (no alcohol).

For a chain Mexican food restaurant, this place is good. I can't remember the combo I get, but it comes with three enchiladas and beans and rice. Lots of food. Their chips and salsa are good as well. Ask for the hot sauce.

Yeah, I was shocked to learn that they were a chain. Better than most mom and pops I've had.

When the guy brought the salsa, he brought two good size salsa bowls and one little tiny stainless steel one, which appeared to have salsa verde in it or something. The big bowls tasted like tomato sauce and it took Erin and I a little while to figure out that you use the smaller, super-hot sauce to season your larger salsa.

Or, you just eat the larger bowl as-is, and completely ignore the smaller, stainless steel one. Whichever works.

Or you just avoid it all together because the water might be spicy.

I have actually eaten at Abuelo's, so there! It is good stuff. The water DID have a bit of a kick to it, but I managed.
