Why not just do two separate leagues at this point?
One, it's twice as much work for me...
And two, a bigger league might be more fun and tougher for everyone to play. Unfortunately, only 2 people out of the 24 already signed up have given an opinion.

I don't think autopick is a good idea either. Takes the strategy and personal angle out of the game too early.
I'm game for more teams but I feel 32 should be the absolute upper limit. Anything more than that will start requiring guys like Burke to be the starting center on teams. What could be worse than that ?
NBA.com won't allow leagues of over 30 teams, so there's no worries there.
But you definitely have to draft differently. You can't expect to get Steve Nash one round and Marion the next.
The cool thing (I think) is having this be a keeper league, because if you determine you had a bad draft, you can build for the future.
After the league is completely full and everybody is signed up, I'll ask for everyone's idea about keepers. I know there is a way on their site to do contracts and amounts, but that might be too much work for me, let alone everyone in the league!
Also, I still vote in favor of the email draft. If there are other ideas, that's fine--we can still do a live draft, but getting 28 people there at the same time is rough. Of course, those people can also autopick. Emailing seems to be the best way for people with strange time schedules, and it's interactive enough to be fun.

I like 30 teams / 6 divisions to model after NBA. I am not sure how email draft works though, how long per pick? Seems like with 30 teams, 12 picks each, that would take forever.

12 hours per pick, however, if you want you can set it to autopick yourself (of course, I'm assuming that, but it makes sense).
If someone goes the full 12 hours without picking, then they automatically get set to autopick.
We can also try some other ideas, if anyone has any. One might be using the board as a draft board, and then I'd manually input rosters myself. That would be time consuming, but it is something that I've done with my big keeper league in football.
Another is to just do the live draft--I'm not sure what I can customize, I'll have to research that--there's virtually zero chance that everyone will be able to make it at one time.

Oh yeah, we need 3 more people to have 30 teams. Ouchie is one if he ever PMs me his email, and The_Matrix on this thread also said he wanted to do it, but I haven't gotten his email either.

I love the idea of a 30 team league, and it makes it even more fun since its a keeper league.
But one thing...
Please can we do a live draft? Auto-picking has to be the most boring thing in the history of fantasy sports.
Maybe set a date a few weeks from now (Maybe a friday or Saturday) and everyone in the league just clear your schedule for a couple of hours during that day, its not that hard if you know about it 3-4 weeks in advance.
Could you imagine a live draft with 20+ managers showing up? That would awesome.
Obviously some managers will miss the draft, but that happens in every single league, its a problem that can easily be dealt with if they setup their predraft rankings if they cant make draft night.
Another thing, How will the rosters look?
It would be great if we stick to a small starting lineup like... PG,SG,SF,PF,FC and then the bench spots, no utility spots or extra positions of any kind.
More than 5 starting positions will be difficult in such a big league, and we would end up having the Shawn Bradley's of the world starting for some team.

I do see one problem with a league this large however. There won't be any players available on waivers. The only way to improve a team will be through trade. I think that takes away a lot from the game. The only solution I see is to lower the roster size to, say, eight. That would leave about 120 players on waivers.

That's a good point, although the league would be pretty similar to how real NBA teams use the waiver wire. In reality, how much is is really used? But I see your point, and think there is merit in reducing the roster size--perhaps not all the way down to 8, but certainly around 10, rather than 13 like it is now.

On one hand, I would like to see a league that closely resembles the real league, so you are right, the waiver wire (or the free agent pool) does not in general help a team that much in the NBA during the course of the season. But then again, in the real league you can make trades that aren't equal on talent (getting top tier players for draft picks, clearing cap room, etc); in the fantasy league, without the concept of salaries and cap space that is not going to happen. Especially in a keepers league, where owners will be even less reluctant to part with an all-star who is struggling in favor of a lesser-proven player(s) having a good stretch. Also, you can obviously acquire top players through free agency in the offseason. That also won't be an option in a fantasy league, unless actual (or even made-up) salaries, contract lengths and cap space are used.

I don't know much about it, but there is an option of using salaries and contracts. Haven't really thought much on it though.
