After 50 years on TV and 35 as the host of the Price is Right, Bob Barker has said he will retire this June. I knew he was old, but I had no idea he was 82

I.D. badges are long overdue. Security in this office park is a joke. Last year, I came to work with my spud gun in a duffel bag. I sat at my desk all day, with a rifle that shoots potatoes at 60 pounds per square inch. Can you imagine if I was deranged? - Dwight K. Schrute
The rumor that was on radio this morning is that Barker didn't retire on his own, he was asked to. There's some guy named Price(ironically) who was promised the job years ago after Barker retired, he's apparently doing the weather on some show now. He got sick of waiting and went to the producers and said I can't wait anymore I'm going to pursue something else, they said wait, talked to Barker and asked him to step down so they didn't lose Price. So he's going to be the replacement.
Carey Named New Price Is Right Host Source: CBS
July 23, 2007
Actor/Comedian Drew Carey has been named the new host of the multiple Emmy Award-winning "The Price Is Right," joining the long-running game show when it returns this fall for its 36th season on the CBS Television Network.
The show, which picked up its most recent Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show on June 14, is the longest-running game show in television history, having premiered on September 4, 1972. Previous host Bob Barker recently retired after 35 years on the series.
"I couldn't be more excited," said Carey. "I realize what a big responsibility this is. It's the longest-running game show in American television and I plan to keep it that way."
"I'm beyond delighted to announce Drew as the new host of 'The Price Is Right,'" said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. "He is one of the most well-liked personalities working in entertainment, and I have no doubt his humor, charm and enthusiasm will endear him to 'Price Is Right' viewers, while winning over the hearts of new Plinko fans along the way."
"After a thorough search, we're thrilled to have Drew at the helm of one of the most popular entertainment brands of all time," says Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia North America, producers of "The Price Is Right." "He is an exceptional, multi-talented individual and we're confident that he will make 'The Price Is Right' his own for many years to come."
Carey, a stand-up comic turned actor and producer who is best known for having two hit shows simultaneously - "The Drew Carey Show" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" - is also the host of the Network's "Power Of 10," a high-stakes, primetime game show where contestants compete for the chance to win $10 million. That show premieres Tuesday, Aug. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. He was also a producer and host of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" which continues to air in syndication.
"The Price Is Right" is now in its 36th season and is television's longest-running game show. It is a Mark Goodson Production, in association with FremantleMedia, North America, Inc. The series is broadcast weekdays (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.
