The Official X-Files Thread

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to present to you, a thread dedicated to the best show in the entire universe: THE X-FILES!

Stefan wanted to talk about X first, so here goes:

I love Mr. X! The fight between him and Skinner to get the info Scully needed to help find Mulder in the Colony/End Game episodes was off the hook. I liked X because you knew he was on Mulder's side, but he was so ruthless about it that it still put you on edge.

X was a freaking badass.

Edited to add: this thread will most likely have spoilers.. so you're warned!!

Deep Throat was better though.

And there never was a solid enough reason why he would only give away a tiny bit of info when it's obvious he had a lot more, and would save Mulder a lot of hassle if he just told him all the information he had.

Mulder: "How was the Opera?"
X: "Terrific. I've never slept better."

PLEASE don't call him Mr. X--"X" sounds much better.

4000 post for me.

Well, my name is Stefan, and I am an X- fileholic.

I loved X, but I didn't think he was anywhere as good as Deep Throat, but what I wanted to talk about is- what do we really know about him. Who did he work for? I remember that he saved Mulder's life once, and that he was friends with the Deep Throat, but I remember that he killed somebody for the Cigarette smoking man. Can't remember the episode opr even the season, but I am freaking sure he worked for the CSM.

Any thought?

Stefan

And X was originally supposed to be a chick, but they changed it after they filmed the first few episodes.

I dont know what got into me - you're totally right!

X was a badass because when he died he wrote in his own blood to help Mulder find his next in line contact

Even though he never gave Mulder all the info, he was always there to save his butt. Like the time he pulled Mulder's butt off that train, the time when he gave Mulder the info that the thugs were coming to his house (instead he chose to be with Scully), etc.

X was ruthless!

Yup he definitely worked for CSM. Remember the episode "Wetwired" in Season 3? Mulder located that house and went in, but X had already shot the evidence. Then that night X and CSM were in the same car and CSM asked if he had gotten rid of the guy on the inside or whatever. Then a few episodes later (the season finale I think), X was killed by one of CSM's cronies.

CSM is the ultimate bad guy.. wow.

But that's what I never figured out- CSM and DT were friends, involved in every conspiracy on planet earth and beyond, but DT was a nice guy, while CSM was a jerk.

"Musings of a cigarette smiking man was an awesome episode- one of my favorites.

I have a passing interest in X-files. Most of my x-files info comes from my wife. She is the aficionado in our house.

I liked many of the episodes but much of the conspiracy theory info was lost on me.

Was there supposed to be some agency that was responsible for all the conspiracies or something? I didn't even really get (understand) the movie; I had to grill my wife to figure out what the whole point was.

A lot of people were up in arms about this episode because they thought it painted CSM in a too all powerful role. FOr example, he was the one who caused the Bills to lose 4 straight super bowls, etc. But I remember reading an article that said the writers of the ep (i think Morgan and Wong) wrote this ep as a toungue and cheek type thing.

The story was told through the Gunmen's story-telling right? So a lot of it could have been embellished a bit. But I did enjoy the episode - We got to see a peak into CSM and what makes him tick. Some people thought that it took away from CSM and his badass image, but I think it helped to explain just why he was total S.O.B.

My favorite quote from this ep was:

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN: Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

The main people behind all of the conspiracies was a group of men called "The Consortium." They were the ones to have made the deal with the aliens regarding the colonization, and were secretly trying to find a vaccine against that (to save themselves). The movie showed a lot of the consortium, even though a lot of them were not present in the actual X-Files episodes (except the Well Manicured Man, CSM, the big Italian guy with bad teeth, etc.).

They were the ones to help foil Mulder and Scully and their quest for the truth. Ironically, they were the ones who also saved their life many a time because NOT having Mulder creating a ruckus about aliens actually went against their purpose - so they needed him.

That's all I can think of right now.

Man I havent talked in depth about X-Files in so long.. this is like therapy!

Love that quote.

Chaz, I don't think that CSM worked for any government agency. He was what we call, "government above the government."

But Skinner told him to piss off and get out once, and he always did take all that evidence into that room in Pentagon, so I don't know

But that's what's great about the files- characters are complex, and you never really know who is who. As DT said, "Trust no1"
