I almost put Erlenmeyer as my #5, but I figured the Anasazi trilogy was enough conspiracy eps on my top 5. And I couldn't ignore the smoking alien in Jose Chung's From Outer Space.

Bad Blood is the vampire one, right? The one where they both tell different stories--kind of the Rashomon Episode of the X-Files. That one was great too--another good guest episode with the fat red-headed kid and Luke Wilson...

That's cool. I've been a fan since the beginning - I'm guessing around the 3rd ever episode. I liked how it scared me (I was 9 at the time, heh) and I was really into the supernatural, too. But now, 11 years later I love the show because of Mulder and Scully, hands down.

I agree what you said about CC killing the series. His always wanting us to keep guessing, (i.e. playing around with the fact that MAYBE Mulder really wasn't the father of Scully's child , or that CSM MIGHT have been Mulder's dad , etc etc etc ) He was always after the "good scary story" rather then giving what the fans (imo) want: Mulder and Scully, fighting as a team to find the truth.

I do have to give him praise for a few of the episodes he brought us, like The Erlenmeyer Flask, Anasazi trilogy (with DD's help), Redux 2, etc.

What's everyone's fave writers on the show?

My favorite is Vince Gilligan - most of my favorite episodes were the ones written by him. He had a knack for the M/S interaction which I love so much.

A close second is Glen Morgan/James Wong. They were the best during the those early years.

Darin Morgan was good too, but he only had 4 XF epsides to his name.

Kate, I see what you are saying, but I have to disagree. I recently converted my family (former host family) to X- files, and we've been watching tyhe sho almost every night. They are in the middle of season 2, and they like the show because it is not simple- it does not answer many question, and when it does, it makes you ask more questions. You never know what to expect, etc.

WHat killed the show is Chris trying to make some extra money and hold on to the past glory (seasons 8 and 9) Show was excellent, and it could have ended in season 7, with good conclusion- Mulder and Scully together and perhaps some truth uncovered, but he had to make a few extra bucks.

Anyway- what's up with Hanson avatar and x- files quote?
Those shouldn't even be remotely connected to each other. It's demeaning to the files.

2 things:

1) The problem with CC wasn't that it made everything too confusing, I think it just got repetitive. Every single Conspiracy episode was pretty much the same, culminating in the movie. Mulder gets to a point where he witnesses something--somehow it's destroyed or disappears, so all he has is what he saw. Scully did NOT see anything, so she kinda/sorta believes Mulder, but not enough to unequivacally believe him. ANd then you're just back where you started.

2) I had to mention one episode that I left off my list, which I needed to put down probably as my #3 or #4--and that would have to be...

I totally see what you're saying. I should have clarified what I meant. Back in the early seasons, CC's keeping us guessing and answering questions with more questions was WONDERFUL for the show. I was talking more about the later seasons, as Chap just said. It grew a little tiresome, imo. But yes, CC did write a few stellar conspiracy eps (which I listed in that other post).

And Chap, X-Cops was great! Another Vince Gilligan ep! :

It was a three parter.

Anasazi was the season finale for Season 2.

And then The Blessing Way/Paper Clip were the first 2 episodes of Season 3.

Best Conspiracy eps of the whole series, IMO!

The last I remember of that episode was Mulder and Scully in an abandoned train car in the middle of the desert. Was that the end of the first one?

I watched "Fight The Future" again last night. I dunno what the kids did to it, but it was all nasty and scratched up! I was able to get to a playable state, but my favorite part (when Kurzweil gives Mulder the rundown on FEMA and it's power to allow the President to suspend the Constitution) was unwatchable!

It was Mulder who was trapped in the train car with the "aliens" who had the smallpox scars. Scully was either on her way to NM to find him, or had just realized his disappearnce back in DC. Cigarette Smoking Man was in NM near Mulder and told his cronies to "burn it!" The episode ended with the soldiers throwing fire into the train car and the audience knowing Mulder was still in there.

What was everyone's favorite season?

ZThen I agree- as show progressed, they started repeating the same ideas, and by the 8th season, it did was no longer the show we all loved.

It's hard to choose the favorite season. 8th and 9th can be eliminated and to a ceirtan degree- 7th.

Season 1 was great- you had everything in season 1- all kinds of episodes. You also had that tension between Mulder and Scully as he did not really like her in the very beginning, and she was not opened to "extreme possibilities."

My favorite character was in season 1 also. (Deep Throat)

2nd season introduced Krychek- a brilliant new character. While Mr. X never really replaced DT, he was more than adequate to add another dimension to the show. Cigarette smoking man's character was developed as well.

I don't know- 1 and 2 are my favs.

I thought the first 4 seasons were great, but I also loved some of the eps that came later (like Triangle, X-Cops, and the one where they finally have closure with Mulder's sister plot). You just can't beat Moby in an episode of the X-Files (I recall him having music in at least 2 episodes).

"all things" and in "Closure" are the two eps that come to mind!
