The recent addition of FOX HD football broadcasts are really nice. Also since ESPN is now HD the highlights on Sportscenter and Primetime are in HD for those games in HD.
The other cool part is the surroud sound when you hear the crowd all around you while watching the game.
Does DirecTV show all the games in HD that are available that way? I thought I heard last season they only had one or two each week.
Of course with Fox now in HD there are a lot more games available that way this season.
We watch Monday night games at my friend's house on his projector and the OTA HD broadcast from ABC.
DirecTV shows about 7 or 8 NFL games a week on HDTV, not counting Monday or Sunday night.

Thank you for breaking the circle of suck, Bidwill--Stout, December 7 2008.
I've got a big beef with DirecTv and our local affiliates.
We have HD, the package ($10.99 month), HD antenna. I live on 67th and Happy Valley, which is a good distance from the TV towers on South Mountain.
We do get the HD channels (ESPN, HDnet, etc), but we don't get our LOCAL HD stations (FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC). That's because we're a bit too far for the antennaes on S. Mtn.
So, I had to call DirecTv and request a waiver to get the New York or LA affilites in HD. Our affiliates denied us. Why? It's obvious we don't get the local HD reception because we're too far, but we still got denied.
If they would have accepted our request, we could have received the feeds from NY and LA for an additional $2.99 a month. But, looks like that isn't going to happen.
Which means I can't watch Cards road games that are broadcast in HD.
Anybody else going through this?

Really? I haven't heard of this problem before. HD is supposed to broadcast at the same distance as a regular signal through the airwaves. I've had people from further away get an HD signal from an antenna... What kind of atenna do you have?

Yea I know the affiliates are pretty stingy about issuing waivers.
What kind of antenna do you have? Is there a mountain or a lot of tall trees or something that blocks your line of sight to south mountain?
Check www.antennaweb.org to see what kind of antenna you need and what channels you should be able to get based on your zip code.
Ok, according to antennaweb, I'm only 27.8 miles away (85383 ZIP).
Is there something that I'm doing wrong? Do I need to switch the antenna somehow with my TV or DirecTv guide?
On my DirecTV guide, there's a PN12 and Air 12 (CHANNEL 12). Shouldn't I just have to go to Air 12 to start receiving 12 in HD. If I go to it now, it's just a plain/slightly distorted picture and says ANALOG.

Try to turn to channel 36 on your antenna.

Also try 29 which is another channel for 8.1 (PBS). It only shows a medium antenna required for that channel.
It show a medium directional antenna with a preamp is required for that area. Is the antenna they installed a little indoor antenna?
My friend that gets his channels via OTA started with a little set top antenna that couldn't get a digital signal except 8.1. He then installed a huge 100' antenna from Radio Shack in his attic and now he gets a good signal on some channels from Tucson as well as all the Phoenix channels.
You also may need to do a search for channels. If there is not a strong enough signal you will just get a blank picture or the STB will not recognize that there is a channel at all.
