Bullock was sheriff in the 1870s and died here in 1919 but was never really laid to rest. He was the sheriff "whose gaze could stop fights." Since then, nearly three dozen people have seen his ghost. You're a jerk man. Post a spoiler to try to prove someone's speculation wrong. Very cool...

Now that was not right to do. You should be expelled.

Thats just flat wrong. I had no idea that Bullock was gonna be sherriff of that town. Damn!!!

On another note, this is the best show on TV. I was/am a huge Sopranos fan but i find myself wanting Sopranos to end to get to DeadWood!

Al is one of the best characters I have ever seen. He has some many sides. Like someone else said he is even sympathetic in his own way. (i.e calling everyone together to give money for the plague vacine-although his motive was to keep people alive so they would spend their money in the Gem)

My mother in law sai the actor who plays Al use to be on her favorite British comedy/soap show. Does anyone know if he is English or not??

I believe he is Irish. His name is Ian McShane. He was the lead character in a long running BBC series called Lovejoy. He played Frank Lovejoy, an art dealer/detecive/scam artist. A & E carried it for years.

I'm predicting him for an Emmy. Hell, this show will blow the Emmy's and Cable awards away. As much as I like the Sopranos, I'm with you on the Deadwood anxiety. I'm watching the clock during the Sopranos, in anticipation of Deadwood.

My question is, who does the lead in and closing music. I have scanned the credits to no avail. I am putting my money on Ry Cooder, but I don't know. I find the music enhances the show and the previews. Does anyone know who it is?

Hey, that's why I first quoted what you said, and then wrote spoiler.

Sorry if you think I was being a jerk, I didn't mean to do that.

It's history, so it's not like you couldn't easily find that info (I found it in like 2 seconds) yourself. I sincerely apologize if I ruined the show for you.

Nice of you to call me a jerk; I won't make in any judgements on you from reading stuff on a message board...

I was watching a show on either The History Channel or Discovery Channel and thought I recognized the voice and it was McShane.

I just love this show. My only real complaint and it is petty I am sure but I really don't care for the way Olyphant plays Bullock. Just something about the way he does it kind of grates on me...not saying he is a bad actor but rather I don't care for the (his?) interpretation of the part.

There is not a character I think is misplaced or even miscast (contradicts the Olyphant deal I guess).

Anyone see the "Deadcount"? http://www.hbo.com/deadwood/episode/deadcount.shtml

SPOILER

I was half kidding here. I did not think he would become mayor by nominating himself. That was pretty comical if you ask me.

The swearing is getting kind of old, but still cracks me up. There was some funny dialog last episode.

You know maddog, the cussing is beginning to wear on me a bit too...and I can cuss with the best sailors out there when I want to.

Wally: Classic line was Jane's comment about Charlie's outfit. I burst out laughing when she said it.

***Possible Spoiler*** (for those who haven't seen it yet)

Is that it for Calamity Jane on the show??

Did you catch her leaning head first against the building in a drunken nap?

Charlie uttered a great one there about her holding the building up.

What's with the letter that Hickock wrote to his wife just prior to his murder.

E. B has the letter in his possession. What will he do.

My favorite character now believe it or not is the preacher. Yes! From anti-organized religion swd1974 himself! lol

I really hope he can be helped. Why isnt the doc taking a real serious look at him and giving him some sort of medicine to help him out.

I almost cried when he was in the tent talking to the doc

Get well preacher!

Medicine won't cut it. In previous episodes, the Doc told Smith he had a lesion ( tumor )on his brain. The only way he can help him is to operate and the Rev. won't do it. If you remember , in the last episdode. the Doc excused himself from serving on the town council because he disclosed that he was convicted 7 times back East. for body snatching from exumed graves. he used the corpses to perform experimental surgery on. The premise is , that he can do the successful surgery, but the Rev. thinks it is God's gift and not a tumor.
