I have lost all respect for INXS and the mockery they are making of the band and the memory of Michael Hutchence.
They had a lead singer - who they made a permanent member - Jon Stevens - and he left after 4 years of not making a new album. They recorded and released one song with Stevens called "I Get Up" which was used for a EA Sports Rugby game - and it was a GREAT song - and that was it. So Stevens left and all they have done is slagged on the guy and are completely dismissive of him.
So now - with all of these reality tv shows - they come up with this crap.
It is for them - all about the money - and no integrity and honor
They were a great band with Michael. Now they are a bunch of pikers.

I will say this, just about every contestand left on the show would win American Idol easily if they were allowed on the show, the talent level is clearly quite high.
My initial reaction was what a farce this is going to be, but if you've seen the Velvet Revolver special on how they found their singer they did almost the same thing, hold open auditions, advertise all over. They just didn't let America vote for the winner.
As to why INXS did nothing for 4 years I agree it wasn't the new lead singers fault but we are talking about a band ripped apart by Hutchence committing suicide, I think it's entirely possible that none of them were ready to resume making albums and when they finally decided they were ready, they realized they weren't all that happy with their new singer?
I just loved that guys version of Britney Spears bubble gum song, sounded like a cross between Cobain and Marilyn Manson.
I understand Stronso losing all respect for INXS, but this was PURELY a very well-thought out decision for them. No one has heard crap from them since Hutchence died. Like it or not, Reality TV is the flavor of the month right now, and they need to do something to get people interested in this band again. If they just went out and hired another new singer, the only people interested would be the die-hard fans--and they need more than that to re-emerge. I'd bet money they hate this as much as you do, but it's a business decision.
All that being said, I agree with Russ that the contestants that are currently left are gonna be good someday, somewhere if not w/ INXS. Jordis' (dreadlocks chick) voice is mesmerizing. She's amazing. Her version of The Man Who Sold The World is just....wow. But I really like Ty, too. Can't wait for J.D. to get the boot.

I don't like JD as a person, he seems to be a prick, but as he said we're not here to form a band we're here to be the lead singer of an existing band. I think he's good too, I liked his song a lot more last night than Navarro apparently did.
I think Ty has a good voice but I can't really picture him singing the old INXS songs? I guess it depends do they pick someone to make songs NOW or do they factor in can he sing the old stuff? I suspect Mig has a huge advantage being an Aussie although I think he's the least talented singer of the men left on the show. Ty just reminds me too much of the guy who sang Cult of Personality.

What I really like in this show is the variety of songs, and that now INXS is picking songs they figure will be TOUGH for them to sing. Which is why you get Marty doing Britney Spears(and doing it VERY well) or some of the other choices.
I do see that it's a "sellout" and I understand Stronso's comments, but I agree with Linderbee Inxs is old news. Hutchence committed suicide in 1997, and the band was 20 years old then. They eventually hired another singer but they haven't released an album in 8 years and a show like this will introduce them to a whole new subset of fans that wouldn't otherwise consider buying their new albums or seeing them in concert. They really had 1 other choice, do what Velvet Revolver did and hire a well known singer.
now you want to talk silly sellouts checkout RU the Girl where TLC are interviewing singers to go on stage with them. THey're very careful not to say to make an album with us or reform the band with us, I think that's so that when they end up disappointed they're only contractually required to let this girl on stage with them for one show. So far the contestants are pretty weak, most wouldn't make the final 16 on American Idol.

She did the cover of David Bowie's Man Who Sold The World, one of my favorite songs of all time, so I a negative bias against anyone who tries to cover it, Nirvana's version stunk IMO. Anyways her version was amazing. Best performance of the show so far, IMO.
Anymore bad mouthing of Jordis and we will have to take this outside.

As I said, I didn't see that one so I don't get the love affair, every other one of her songs I've seen (2 or 3) didn't blow me away, but Navarro clearly loves her.

I really like her voice, along with Susie they both have a lot of Janis Joplin type sound in their voices.

Hhmmmm. I didn't care for Deanna either but I see your point about the woman thing. Jordis croaked Tuesday night. She is usually so much better than that. I don't know why she didn't either styalize to fit her voice or just change keys. It was bad.
As for Mig & Ty they have charisma. I think that's why they're still there.
Marty is intense. He kinda freaks me out a little.
I think Mig is going to take it all--they like him, and he's an Aussie. My husband and I have discussed the possibility that he was meant to win all along and was planted there. How the heck would we know if he was in the bottom 3 in voting or not? The whole show could be set up just to generate interest in the band again....
