Many networks are switching around programming in attempts to avoid Idol.
Wow, that's a lot of respect.
I can't stand this show cuz in general I just don't listen to Pop Music. But it is amazing the amount of knock offs this show has generated....and that America will sit through 4 episodes a week at the beginning.
Network executives at ABC, NBC, and CBS think 2007 is the year that American Idol will finally lose some viewers. Their reasoning, though, is less logical and more hopeful. They think that, at some point, the ratings have to stop going up. Still, they're getting all their highest-rated shows out of Idol's way... just in case. Entering its sixth season next month, so far nothing has been able to stop Fox's reality giant. An article this morning at Variety compares American Idol to a hurricane that the nets prepare for and then hunker down to survive. And it's not just during the 8-9 pm hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; the fan frenzy over Idol spreads to other Fox shows, such as House and Bones.
Each network has devised a plan that it thinks will attract viewers who don't watch Idol (that's 80% of the country). For example, ABC has bumped Lost back to 10 pm on Wednesdays and is hoping that men watch the new guy-friendly comedy, Kings of Prosperity, while Idol airs on Fox. CBS is sticking with the shows that held up pretty well last year, Criminal Minds and NCIS. Newbie Jericho also enters the fray in February. NBC has perhaps the weakest anti-Idol programming, with Deal or No Deal and Dateline NBC in its path.
Anyone have any guesses on when American Idol's time will be up?
i hate the "idol" type of music, and generally forget most contestants after the season is over, but for whatever reason I find myself watching every damn episode.
