Word from DC

In reading news it looks like 'a Not So Fast' on this deal, even the GOP can't get their act together and agree.

In fact it looks like McCain may be throwing wrenches into the process.

What I was reading was suggesting that the mere fact of him him getting involved would make bi partisan agreement difficult due to election politics. Not to mention that he appears to be pretty contentious on the subject.

Why is a senator who is by his own admission not strong on economic issues getting ivolved ? I can think of only one possibility ... More grandstanding and with our money

get their act together? agree? Uhm, the fact that several republican congressmen are pitching stakes and demanding changes to this bad bill, instead of "getting their act together and agreeing" is quite possibly the best news I've heard regarding this crap.

In all fairness, I think that the GOP AND the Dems ahve been acting well together. When Congressman Shelby was speaking after the Summit at the White House, I was in constant agreement. I will tell you that this looks REEEEEEALLY bad on McDumbass. This was a broad bi-partisan effort and he crashes and burns this into the ground like the 5 airplanes during his military time. Word is that McPetulance wanted less regulations and bigger tax breaks for the institutions involved - seriously....

Good. Hopefully it lasts until they get something that isn't criminally insane, and is just plain insane. In the meantime, I really want idiot mcCain to miss the debate because of his posturing.

This is insane. Dodd is flat out calling out Bush for his lack of support.

I think that is a little more than justified.

Its not that the Demos are for it, its just they are saying 'He is your Prez, you first'

Bush is doing what he always does as a "compassionate conservative" and a "consensus builder"....... He's taking a "my way or the highway" stand. The Democrats are doing their Nancy Reagan impression of "just say no." It is supremely arrogant for Bushco to include paragraph 8 in their proposal and to keep advocating for it.

It's patently obvious that Bush's big hurry has more to do with just getting his idea passed untouched than it is about saving the country.

IMHO, this doesn't get resolved unless there is some way for McCain to save face and come out on top as a hero.
This has become a dirty political circus as dirty as I have ever seen and I've been around a long time.

Frankly, the whole scenario disgusts me to my core.

That might be difficult.... People at the meeting said that McCain basically did nothing at the meeting.

But the whole thing is a stupid pet trick. As a commentator said last night, McCain is welcome to come to Washington but there's really nothing for him to do there. He is not a member of the committee hearing the proposal and it is being held behind closed doors. The commentator also pointed out that McCain is not particularly well-liked in the Senate, so there is little, if any, lobbying he could do that would be successful. Bush may well have called the meeting solely for the purpose of giving McCain something to do in his trip to DC.

What a maroon!!!
