Why I am HAPPY the Dems didn't get 60 seats in the Senate....

It forces bi-partisanship. It looks like the Dems have 56 seats, which will drop by one when they kick Lieberman out on his ass, but the point is that in order for any progressive initiatives to get through, we need to have at least 5 Reps to come along. This has been a basic tenet of Obama's philosophy and this Senate composition ensures that will be put into play in any efforts to move forward.

This is a true changing of the guard....

They can't kick Lieberman out. He is in the Senate as an Indie right now.

He just votes democratic.

They will kick him off his chairmanship and force him to caucus with the Reps. That is all I mean....

Joe L. is (soon to be "was") chair of some Homeland Security Committee.

I'm not so sure they do that, especially if the two last races that are too close to call (or runoffs) go Democratic.

Well, I think they SHOULD kick his ass to the curb. Lieberman STILL has to answer to his constituents in Connecticut, which is a deep blue state, so if he caucuses with the Republicans, he will be rendered irrelevant and likely voted out of office in 2 years....

I don't see how that's helpful in ANY type of bipartisan spirit.

If things are going to change, they better freaking change. Otherwise, it's just lip service.

Wait and see if Leeb plays ball. If not, dump him. If he does, all the better.

Like DEI said. He will be dumped if he doesn't play ball. He is now the last non-Dem (if you call him that now) in New England.

Some think Droopy Dog is the biggest loser of this election. I think that's over-reaching.

True Bi-partisanship is a rare thing. We do on occasion see it but more often then not you still get Republicans voting down good legislation because it was democratic. You get the Dems doing the same when something comes from Republicans.

Usually the only time you see bi-partisanship is when you get the two sides trying to push their agenda and they happen to intersect. Then you get all this piggy backing in return for cross party support. It's a wonder anything every gets done in Washington.

The Dems still have control in congress which is what Barrack needs to get things done. The only thing the 60 seats would have done is prevent the Republicans from using the Filibuster. However, the filibuster is more unsuccesful then not. They showed a stat on all the filibusters used since 2000 and most of them didn't work and the legislation still eventually passed. However, the threat of a Filibuster is a pain the butt to the other party. I guess we will see what happens.

I think at the end of the day, they will let Joe stay where he's at. They just won't move him up in the hierarchy. He will be stuck where he's at. Frankly, Obama aides say they aren't looking for 60 votes on bills, they are looking to make legislation that will get 85 votes. That's their goal.

Isn't that the agency that will be sent to the trash pile?
