I was going to post the other day how I felt Napolitano would be on any theoretical Obama staffer list, probably attorney general. AP writers feel even more strongly about it -- she's among seven predicted candidates for Obama's running mate if he wins the Dem nominee. Napolitano represents the "Dem base" while Obama brings in independents.
Any thoughts?

I think it would absolutely suck to lose her as governor. She was a real counterpoint to our state legislature, which has historically always been among the worst in the nation.

- Virginia Sen. Jim Webb
- Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius
- Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland
- Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar
- Delaware Sen. Joe Biden
- Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer
Napolitano has always been a political creature, even when she was a federal prosecutor. She used to send out statewide press releases over every little thing. Couldn't tell you who the other fed prosecutors were, but we all knew who she was before she ever mentioned a political career.

I had a lot of respect for her until she defended Arpaio in this Honduras aid thing. First time in a long time I felt she was pandering to Maricopa County voters.
She has done some other things that were straight-up political favors, like the veto on Pinal County BOS expansion to five elected sups -- even though state law mandates they do it. Pinal County is being invaded by middle-class Republicans and they are scrambling to maintain their old boy network in place despite evidence of impropriety

Oh, she has warts. Just like anyone in office, you can't stay lily-white pure.
But, much more importantly to me, she has really held firm on improving funding for education and mental health. This state has never recovered from what Symington and Hull did to education for a decade. I've seen so many professors leave ASU, and teachers leave the field, the last 15 years it's sad.

I have some 'righty-lefty' political friends back East who (surprisingly) gush over the guy from Montana.

Running against a decorated vet in a time of war, I think Barack will have to pick Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia. He was Sec. of Navy under Reagan, and is an anti-Iraq war, decorated Vietnam War vet, whose son has served in Iraq.
You may remember him as the one that refused to shake Bush's hand and told him to bring the troops home when Bush asked how his son was doing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Webb
Biden weakens the ticket for me as an independent. Veep gets to run the Senate. I don't trust a lawyer in that position who has been so vehemently opposed to tort reform of any kind. He also grandstands a bit too much for me, like the SCOTUS appointment hearings.
All the way around, I want Obama to pick fresh blood.
This isn't really the right thread for this, but I don't really care
One of the things I really like about Obama is that I have no doubt whatsoever that he is going to surround himself with the most intelligent, experienced people he can when (not "if" ) he is elected. What he may lack in experience himself, he will make up for by having the best advisers available.
Same goes for VP...I think he'll pick someone really good.

He's going to need to find himself (hisself?) a Bobby Kennedy.
