Really? Looking like "troopergate" is going to be a big nothing. And CNN just had Wooten on...he's a douchebag. Admits "safely" tazering his kid, only like touching an electric fence after he took out some things to make it less dangerous. Also killing the moose or whatever. Then says he wasn't drinking in the car (something other witnesses claimed to see). Says he didn't threaten to put "an effing bullet in his [palin's dad's] head." Did not sound convincing. Even the CNN guys were like "uhm, why did this guy want to do this interview?"
Oh, and by the way, the dude fired named Walter Monegan thinks he was fired because he wouldn't fire wooten, but admits that he WAS NOT ASKED TO FIRE WOOTEN.
(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — So far, the lawyer for Sarah Palin, the Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate, has done a masterful job of handling a controversy known as "Troopergate."
With the country's attention focused on Palin the candidate, lawyer Thomas Van Flein has moved aggressively to undermine an Alaskan legislative inquiry and has started questioning potentially damaging witnesses against the governor.
The legislature launched a probe of Palin in July after former safety commissioner Walt Monegan said he felt pressured by the governor's office to fire a state trooper involved in a messy divorce with Palin's sister.
In 2005, before Palin ran for office, she and her husband, Todd, claimed the trooper, Mike Wooten, threatened to kill Sarah Palin's father. Wooten was suspended over the allegations for five days in 2006 but still has his job. The Palin family also accused Wooten of drinking beer in his patrol car, illegally shooting a moose and firing a Taser at his 11-year-old stepson.
Van Flein wants the state personnel board to conduct the probe, not the legislature. The board members are gubernatorial appointees. Van Flein said he has already provided the board the depositions of two witnesses he has questioned, leaving the legislature in the dark.
The legal tactic of pre-emptive questioning gives the governor a distinct advantage in the controversy because it means that she already knows at the outset the detailed accounts of potential witnesses against her. The procedure also locks important witnesses into the accounts they give. If the witnesses provide statements now that are favorable to Palin, the witnesses' credibility could be called into question if they make statements in the future that are unfavorable to her.
The questioning by Van Flein of two witnesses took place on Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.
In one of the depositions, Van Flein questioned gubernatorial aide Frank Bailey, who on Tuesday refused to testify to the legislative investigation of the governor.
Van Flein released the depositions of Bailey and Michael Monagle, a state manager with the workers' compensation division, to The Associated Press on Thursday night.
In them, Bailey says that the governor never asked him to do anything regarding Wooten. Palin and her husband, said Bailey, expressed "serious genuine concern about not only their safety but the safety of their family, their kids, their nieces, nephews, her father, regarding trooper Wooten." Bailey's answers to Van Flein's questions were consistent with the account Bailey told The AP last month.
Monagle said that in regard to the controversy, there were rumors on the Internet that the governor or her office had requested Wooten's workers' compensation file.
"Absolutely not" true, said Monagle, who said that the file is "in my office in a locked file cabinet" for safekeeping.
Bailey's actions are among the most controversial aspects of the investigation.
Early this year, Bailey was caught on tape questioning an Alaska State Trooper official why Wooten was still employed, given his conduct in regard to the divorce.
In the recorded conversation, Bailey said: "Todd and Sarah are scratching their heads, why on earth hasn't, why is this guy still representing the department? He's a horrible recruiting tool. ... You know, I mean from their perspective, everyone's protecting him."
In the Aug. 26 deposition, Van Flein asked why Bailey was saying such things.
Van Flein told Bailey, "You weren't doing it because the governor asked you to, correct?"
"Correct," Bailey responded.
After providing the depositions to the AP, Van Flein said Bailey and Monagle "have no reason to lie; they have been consistent in their statements. Why would they jeopardize themselves over something as inconsequential as this?"

Saw the interview Donald and glad you posted this... nidan, Cheese, KloD, carnutt, Yuma, LIAC, and all the rest - I'm sure you'll work overtime to find another "story" to toss out there... Try to get some sleep fellas. The sun will rise again tomorrow, bringing more opportunity for you to smear and perpetuate falsehoods...
Just to be clear, I have not paid any attention to the so-called Troopergate scandal and cannot offer commentary on it....
Now that that is out of the way:
How can you, 82, call this scandal a perpetuation of falsehoods when this scandal existed before she was even pegged as VP running mate? It's not like this is something that was just drummed up since last Friday. Explain this....

Please... this, along with the stories about the potential of her baby not being her baby, the moronic questions about where she was when her water broke, and on and on and on...
Yes, troopergate was a story that developed well before her nomination. Hell, started before she was even governor! However, NO examination of FACTS was allowed to happen. It took CNN of all media outlets to out this friggin loser and shed some reality on this story... What a joke...
There are many here (you were out of this one), who placed this story in a context where Palin was guilty. Not presumed innocent. Not "let's let the case work it's way through", not "let's let the facts surface and become fully vetted"... Hell, MANY actually stated that this loser of a human being was INNOCENT and that the accusations of him tasering his step-son, the moose and all were false! Yet, Palin was guilty!
What a collossal CROCK!
I made the point earlier today that at miday today, on the first page of the 2008 Presidential Election thread, 68 of the 100 threads were designed to attack or smear Repubs and/or Palin. 68 out of 100!!!
Troopergate... Babygate... 6 colleges in 6 years, which turned out to be 4 colleges, 2 of which were JuCo's... incredible....
Conversely, last week during the Dem Convention, how many of these baseless smear threads were started?
I've always stated how amazed I am at how those who comprise the left are allowed to get away with this crap... I've been banned for far less, simply for fighting from the right.
Anyway...
Again - go to sleep lefties... rest up and try again another day...
To be fair 82, Obama has been slammed for petty garbage like flag pins, his hand placements, his pastor, his gaffes in comments (guns and religion), his being a secret muslim, terrorist fist pumping, his middle name, etc.
Both sides are slinging it hard against two people who are very charismatic, and who strike fear into the other party because of their likeability.
Neither side is right with that.

Politics has become all about doing whatever possible to smear and denegrate... I never said Obama was exempted from his share of attack.
However, the Wright issue is legit IMO. Flag-Pins, Hand Placements, his being a muslim, fist pumping is all stupid, baseless crap. That said, go back and look at the shear number of threads, and the amount of posting in those threads that hit the areas you mention on Obama. It doesn't even come close to what has gone on here with Palin and McCain... not even close...
So, if the Wright issue is legit, why have you not taken an interest in the AIP thing? Todd was a member for 8 years and Sarah addressed their convention just this year stating that she was greatly honored to do so....
82, We'll have to agree to disagree on that. I think they are both as slammed as the other. Palin's has simply happened in a very small timeframe.
I also don't put much stock into the Wright issue, because from everything I've read on Obama he seems to enjoy listening to tons of viewpoints but remaining strong to his own views, unless he sees something compelling to force him to alter his viewpoint (as he describes his transformation on gay marriage/partner benefits in Audacity of Hope). He mishandled it somewhat, but overall I don't think that he thinks like wright just because he was in his church. I simply don't buy it.

And for me, neither is an issue at all.

Well, I agree. As a matter of fact, this is the very first mention of this I have ever made to this board on that issue. Just like the Troopergate thing, I will let the investigation bear out. However, I am simply noting the obvious disconnect here. The leader of the AIP said he won't be buried under her damned flag and has no use for her damned institutions and hates America in general, or whatever else he said, and Todd was a member for 8 years!!!! If Wright is legitimate to 82, it would only be consistent that AIP would also be legitimate....

Yup - we are definitely gonna disagree on this one...
As for Wright vs AIP, I really don't see them in the same light...
Wright was Obama's admitted "spiritual leader". He baptized Obama's kids. And Obama spent 20 years in Trinity!
Palin herself was never a member of AIP (contrary to what was pushed on this board). Her husband was with them for 8 years. Should that cause us to want to know how that impacts Palin's views? Of course. But no way does this compare to Wright...

She gleefully introduced the last AIP convention. Your disconnect is on full display. Do you really suppose that not only Todd was ignorant of AIPs views, but Sarah was too?

Never said that DEI... Read the front page of their website dude (http://www.akip.org/). It clarifies real quickly the facts around Todd's "membership"...
Disconnect? Unless of course you are talking about yourself...
