The Famous Mr. Ed

Rendell, that is ............. acting like an ass indeed

Quote:
"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate," Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday's paper.

To buttress his point, Rendell cited his 2006 re-election campaign, in which he defeated Republican challenger Lynn Swann, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star, by a margin of more than 60 percent to less than 40 percent.

while i'm sure this is true to a degree, it's hard not to discount bigots and closed minded people anywhere - there are also very conservative black men who want nothing to do with electing some white woman

shouldn't be an issue and making a statement like this is pretty much saying "vote clinton if you want a dem president because the black man is going to scare the conservative white dems/independents into voting rep......"

also it's kind of trivial and sad he's equating his results to this potential contest

he was the incumbent governor, popular former mayor of the states largest metropolitan area

also swann was running as a republican and carried all the areas where a republican should win in the state

basically rendell is saying that bigoted white republicans won't vote for a black person so his margin of victory was very, very high - as opposed to very high ..................... guess what, that 5% swing he's looking at isn't voting for hilary either

politics in it's lowest form

Meh - just reading the quote you provided (too lazy to clickee linkee) - I think he's just telling it like it is. What the broader ramifications are, who knows.

yeah - but it's really irrelevant because those same people aren't going to vote for hillary - so it's a bit dishonest to paint it to your state that by endorsing obama you could swing the state to the reps (as PA is a swing state)

I fully agree with what he had to say after these comments. He said we have a real problem when a white candidate can't criticize a black candidate without it being seen as racist, and vice versa. People need to stop being so sensitive to everything they hear.

too bad that wasn't the case

he as a white guy said that other white people (not candidates, not specific people in the race, but a specific demographic group) would not vote for the black candidate

didn't say that hillary had better ideas, didn't say anything relating to a single position of his

simply painted it as - he's a black guy so he can't win here - even if he sure do talk nice
