Stupid question
I got my Arizona Voter card and apparently I didnt designate a party, so my card says "PND - Party Not Designated".
On this site, I found this;
I'm a registered Independent. Can I vote in the Primary Election? Yes! Arizona is now an open primary state. Independents may vote for candidates of recognized parties in the Primary Election.
Does that mean I can vote for whomever I want tomorrow?

I think so, but only in one of the two, not both.

Nope, you actually have to be registered DEM or REP to vote in these primaries.

Yeah, different states have different rules. There is a push to allow Independents to participate in primaries because it would theoretically prevent the extreme candidates from winning.

The confusion comes from how the different elections are phrased.
The local and state elections hold primaries and they are open
The Arizona presidential primary is actually a "Presidential Preferential Election" and is not open.

right on
read a newspaper article awhile ago about this - many independents didn't know that they would need to change their affiliation to vote for a candidate of choice during the presidential primary

Colorado is the same way. Pisses me off. What, Independents shouldn't have a say as to the candidates put on the ballot in November? It's f'd up.

Well, what is funny is that I thought the "PND" status on my voter card meant Democrat based on a quick (and in hindsight errant) Google search.
As a Dem, I would have voted for Obama.
If I were down with G.O.P., I would have checked Paul.

In the end, IND and PND definitely get pwned.
