South Carolina Debates

Ron Paul just owned the crap out of that group, IMO.

Too bad he's too smart for his own good. Only 20 percent of the voters will actually go learn about what he just told them...the rest will say "oh, I don't know about that so it must not be true."

Fred Thompson was, finally, funny. He really tore holes in Huckabee. Be...agressive!

Surprisingly, yes he was. I was shocked.

He soooooooo has no interest in the Presidency. He must be doing this as a lark...just something to do.

You could not find a more disinterested candidate...but tonight he wanted to crack wise.

Huck looks amazingly like Gomer Pyle at times. It is weird.

I disagree with your take on Thompson. I caught a bit of Thompson on Hannity this afternoon. He sounded good. His wife was on as well and she explained that he is an introvert, not a back slapping good ol' boy. He often likes to be alone where he does a lot of thinking. I am very similar. I really like his stances on the issues.

One thing that I noticed is that he is a realist. He doesn't make pie in the sky promises that get people excited. All of his ideas such as the semi flat tax are actually plausible(unlike the Fair Tax). He is the only Pub to caution ideas like the Fair Tax because he says a Constitutional Amendment would be needed to make sure that an income tax wasn't instituted later.

He also commented on birthright citizenship. A Constitutional Amendment would also be needed, and he doesn't see that happening. He does however want legislation to restrict chain migration.

His platforms don't get the blood pumping, but they are extremely well thought out and realistic unlike Huckabee's Fair Tax, any of Ron Paul's ideas, or the dems universal healthcare.

I like Fred. I really do...I don't agree with him on some things but I think he's better than the field other than Ron Paul.

However, it could not be more clear that he isn't even trying. He has spent no money...he has tried to raise no money. He fiddles around in debates. He looks like he'd rather be golfing.

Sans Paul, he's the only Rep candidate I'd even consider voting for (and I'm republican), so it kind of sucks that he isn't trying. If he wanted it, he could probably get a lot of support. It doesn't look, to me at least, like he really wants it much at all.

Problem with Fred is that he is too deep for primaries these days. Everyone wants to say something shocking or funny in less than a minute. Fred, on the other hand, is deep and realistic.

I don't think he can win the nomination this time (he screwed around for too long and jumped in the race too late), but I would love to see him as a VP at least.

Boy, I really disagree with you there. I don't think he's "too deep," I think he's too disinterested, too dispassionate.

Too deep is Paul. He' the only one who isn't speaking in soundbites, and he's going way over most people's heads (including mine sometimes; I'm not just pointing at others).

I think Thompson did better last night, and it will probably show up in the SC votes, but his problem isn't over-answering, I don't think.

OT: I hope that wasn't their reasoning for calling him an introvert. Liking to be alone doesn't mean one is an introvert. Too often those terms are misused.

All introvert and extrovert mean is you feed off energy from other people (extrovert) or people drain you and you need time to recharge (introvert). It has nothing to do with a persons prefrence of being alone or not.

Sorry, carry on...
