SC Democratic Debate
I didn't see anything but "highlights," but it looked pretty heated. Anyone watch?

As stated, I didn't see the debate...but that exchange started by Hillary questioning Barack's "present" votes isn't going to help her as much as she thinks it will, I don't think. If she's trying to get people to like her personality more, she didn't do herself any favors there.

I agree -- every time I almost force myself to consider her as viable, this kind of stuff comes up and all I can see is the next four years spent in nasty conflict -- the right WILL go after her in the most excessive way, and she will get totally preoccupied in winning that battle.

From what little I caught (tuned in the last hour, and between the wise cracks between my staunchly repub wife & friend), they really went at it over the war (JE wanted the troops out within 1 year, BO & HC refused to commit to that time frame), poverty issues, universal health care (sounded mostly like detail issues), and race (everyone tried to play it down, except BO cracked a good one at JE's expense - he was NOT happy, but the crowd was laughing pretty hard at it).
It just seemed like they were all going at each other, interrupting as they could. BO was a bit long winded and wasn't thinking on his feet very well. JE was trying to score points every chance he could get, HC was just going after BO.

It's a shame, too, because some of the recaps I just read had me agreeing with her...especially her opinion on the subprime lending crisis.

She reminds me of this shrill superbitch at my office. She will be nice and soft until she is upset at the dumbest thing, and then she is a horrid person and her true personality shines through.
I'd vote for a woman in a heartbeat...just not that woman.

Granted I see through Obama shades, but I thought the position he took naming Bill Clinton out loud as well as Hilary in the not-so-truthful accusations they've levied was the highlight of the night. It was capped off with Hilary saying "he [Bill] said that, he's not here," and Obama responding with "I'm not always sure who I'm running against".

Obama stepped down from his Ivory tower last night and took a racial shot at Bill Clinton. The more he gets in these heated debates, the more the Teflon peels away. He has learned the sidestep dance very well.
I don't know how much longer his " poor little me " persona will hold up. He will have a very difficult time dealing with the " Tony Rezko " suppor issue. Hillary has her Bob Johnson backing, which doesn't come off nearly as bad as the Barack "Tony" thing.

What racial shot was that? Are you referring to the asinine question about Toni Morrison's tongue-in-cheek comment about Clinton being the first "black President"? I think he handled that about the best he could have considering that kind of question doesn't belong in a debate about who will lead our country.

This one;
Quote:
CNN’s Joe Johns asked Barack Obama whether he thought former President Bill Clinton was the nation’s ‘first black president,’ an observation famously coined by black Nobel laureate Toni Morrison.
“Bill Clinton did have an enormous affinity with the African-American community, and still does, and I think that’s well-earned,” said Obama, who has spent the past few days locked in a high-profile war of words with the former president, who has been stumping on behalf of his wife Hillary Clinton.
But he wasn’t quite ready to grant Clinton Morrison’s honorary title just yet. “I would have to investigate more Bill’s dancing abilities, you know, some of this other stuff before I accurately judged whether he was in fact a ‘brother,’” joked the Illinois senator.
|
Seemed like " white people don't have rhythm and can't dance " . We all have heard the stereotype before. Bad stab at humor.
Of course it was a stupid question, but he came up with a stupid response.

I watched it from start to finish, and as you know I'm a big time Obama supporter. But I thought he did extremely well, especially fending off attacks and rude interruptions from Hillary on his right and Edwards on his left. He seemed the most presidential of the two and talked about reaching out to groups that haven't been on board with the Dems in 2000 and 2004, including the Reagan Democrats and the evangelicals.
The Iraq withdrawal was not a huge subject, Barack reiterated he would pull out 1-2 brigades a month and be as responsible getting out as we were irresponsible getting in.
Hillary took it down in the gutter, first by going off on Barack for complimenting Republicans and kept interrupting him. He had to remind her that he was working in the streets as an organizer trying to help people in response to Reagan policies while she was a corporate lawyer on the board for Wallmart. She then shot back that he was working as a lawyer for a slumlord which he came back to later and refuted.
Hillary's strategy is very clear. Attack, Attack, Attack, divide divide divide. That may be smart strategy for the primary, but she is losing supporters left and right for the general. I for one would never ever vote for her even if she is the nominee. Hopefully, it won't come to that.

He refuted but has never proven it to be untrue. His association to Tony R. won't go away from anyone. Do you seriously think a Republican opponent won't use it?
Didn't know it was unlawful to work for Wal Mart.

Not unlawful, but definitely not in keeping with standard Democratic ideals.
