Believe me, I will question Barrack's motives, knowledge and sincerity through this whole election process. I currently feel that he does not have enough experience for this job, leans to far to the left and has somewhat of an elitist attitude. I will however, afford him respect and give him every opportunity to defend himself against any negatives he might encounter. I will also listen to him directly and not depend on blogs and one sided opinion pieces to form the basis for my opinion of him.
If he does become president, I will not weep and wail; I won't say the other side cheated to win or demand countless recounts trying to change the outcome and I won't call the people who voted for him "brainless idiots". He will be my president and I will back him and defend him just like I have done with all of our other American presidents in my adult lifetime.
This is the way it used to be done when Republicans and Democrats had philosophical differences but they were all Americans and could accept a majority decision. Anyone who wants to move this country away from the anger and rancor between political partys that has developed over the past 25 years can feel free to join me.

Why do you question his motives? You don't think he's running for president because he wants to leave america better than he found it (which is personally why I believe a vast majority of people go into politics--even Bush).

Because he is a Cook County politician. Anyone who is familiar with Illinois politics will know what I am talking about.
Regardless, why would you think that is not a legimate question? Obama is running for the most powerful position in the world. How can this not be a concern to you? Don't you wonder why a 71 year old man worth a fortune would put himself through the strain of running for this office? This question needs to be asked of all candidates and believe me, it will be.

I appearently don't think it's a valid question for the very reason you do--the rigors of running for president, much less actually BEING president, are for more daunting than a "power grab" would warrant. People that put themselves through that do it for things bigger then themselves--they hope to build a country that will prosper and uphold true liberty for generations.
Now, those things may get lost or distorted when things start going sideways (as I believe it has with the current administration), but I think motives are generally almost always the same: presidential candidates want to do good.

Pariah, I love your absolute faith in these politicians but having been around as many as I have, can not agree with you.
How about this. Rather than wrangling over a few words in this statement, can we both agree to accept the outcome and agree to support the new president, no matter who it is?

Yeah, sure.
I'm not wrangling over words, though. just wanted to understand your point and expressed mine. I know you've been around long enough to be set in your ways.

Yeah, arguing with an old hard headed German is like playing Russian Roulette with a loaded automatic.

Yes they are reasonable questions.
I truly believe Obama wants to help the country.
Equally with McCain its about pride and ego. Basically "Damnit, I got screwed out of this the first time" When IMO he was the best choice for the job.
You may be selling that old man short. Right now he is like Hillary was listening to too many people telling them you must do this or or you will lose these and on and on. He will most likley find himself and pull his own way. He is not stupid-- he married well.
