July Fundraising Results / Troops Give More to Obama

Quote:
Obama nearly doubles McCain haul

Barack Obama raised $51 million in July, nearly twice as much as John McCain.

McCain revealed Friday that he raised $27 million last month, his best month of the campaign.
The summer surge pushed Obama over the $400 million mark for what he's raised over the entire campaign, to $401 million. McCain has raised about $171 million, less than half as much.
Obama finished July with $68.5 million cash on hand, versus $21 million for McCain.

On Saturday morning, Obama’s campaign announced his own huge haul. Here’s the text of the release:
More than 65,000 New Donors Contributed to the Obama Campaign in July, Bringing July Total to Over $51 Million

Obama campaign has $65.8 million on hand

CHICAGO — Senator Barack Obama’s campaign announced today that more than 65,000 new donors contributed to the Obama campaign during the month of July, bringing the total raised for the month to over $51 million. More than 2 million people have now contributed to the campaign.

“The 65,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to fundamentally change business as usual in Washington. We are proud of the millions of volunteers and more than two million donors to the Obama campaign who will provide the backbone of our campaign to put America back on track and reject the old politics and failed Bush policies, which is all John McCain is offering,” said David Plouffe, campaign manager of Obama for America.

Also thought this article was VERY interesting:

Quote:
Troops Deployed Abroad Give 6:1 to Obama

Contributions from U.S. Troops Deployed Abroad Recipient Total Number Obama, Barack $60,642 134 Paul, Ron $45,512 99 McCain, John $10,665
26 Huckabee, Mike $7,950 10 Thompson, Fred $6,350 7 Romney, Mitt $5,550 10 Clinton, Hillary $3,240 6

Full article here.

You're telling me that McCain isn't even coming in second? He's coming in BEHIND RON PAUL?

That can't be. The media wrote of RP before he even got started. He's a joke. He's a "wingnut."

So are a lot of our troops on the ground, I guess.

Dammit. I really wish he'd gotten a fair shake.

I think you're off on blaming the media. The republican party wrote him off as a joke from the start and the media followed IMO. I feel the media played the exact role the party wanted them to. He doesn't represent today's republican party, he represents yesterdays. Too bad the voters prefer the new one too, he was the only candidate with a clue. He'd have had my vote.

I agree with that to a point. But it's not the media's job to take cues from the party.

I agree with that.
Since media is no longer presenting the "news", but more an opinion of events, they gotta take their cues from somewhere. Too many people want to be told how to interpret, it's why pundits are so popular IMO.
