If Obama had referred to McCain as "that one," he would have been attacked for it...
The bar for Obama seems to be set so unfairly high when compared to what McCain/Palin is/has been getting away with. This is just one infraction out of hundreds that would have crushed Obama’s campaign if they had come from him. I've held back, but I have to say that I think McCain and Palin or horrible human beings. They are not honorable or decent in any way shape or form befitting the high office they wish to hold. Why can't so many Americans see this?
Not "The Senator," But "That One"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/thenation/20...cDm7KgwZYDW7oF
The Nation -- The proper, respectful and appropriate description for an foe in a debate between two senators is "the senator" or -- if there is a desire to get flowery -- "my distinguished colleague."
But Arizona Senator John McCain, who after a quarter century on Capitol Hill surely knows the political etiquette, could not bring himself to refer to Illinois Senator Barack Obama as he would any other colleague.
Discussing a 2005 Senate vote, McCain said, "There was an energy bill on the floor of the Senate loaded down with goodies, billions for the oil companies, and it was sponsored by Bush and Cheney. You know who voted for it? You might never know. That one," he said, motioning toward Obama. "You know who voted against it? Me."
That one?
That one?
If Obama had referred to McCain as "that one," he would have been attacked for showing disrespect or ridiculed for being so new to the Senate that he did not understand the basic behaviors of the chamber.
Either way, it would have been a devastating moment.
And it should be for McCain, as well.
Understand what the Republican nominee was doing.
He did not slip up.
The McCain campaign and its media acolytes have for weeks been spinning the notion that Obama is running as some sort of messianic character who sees himself in something akin to Biblical terms.
In internet advertisements, campaign spin and talk-show commentary, Obama is mocked as "the one."
A McCain Web commercial from earlier this year compared Obama with the Nazarene. That ad opened with the announcer declaring, "It shall be known that in 2008 the world will be blessed. They will call him 'The One.'"
The ad proceeds to ridicule Obama's high-minded rhetoric before closing with the narrator telling Americans: "Barack Obama may be 'The One.' But is he ready to lead?"
That commercial has long been recognized as one of the more amateurish cheapshots from a campaign characterized all too frequently by amateurish cheapshots.
Now, John McCain has brought the cheapest of the cheapshots to the debate stage.
It was, for a senior senator who has embarrassed himself too many times during this long campaign, a uniquely embarrassing moment.

Is this not just a way of attacking McCain for saying it, but calling it something else. People need to grow some sack and quit crying over every little thing.
Both of these guys are idiots !

This is not one quote I'm referring too. I'm saying Mccain/Palin have made hundreds of nasty comments and every single time, people like you come along and say things like it's not a big deal, he didn't mean it or grow some balls.
My point is that if Obama had said any one of the hundreds of rude things (not just this comment) Mccain/Palin have said and incited violent comments from crowds, his political career would have been over and every media outlet would have roasted him.
The bar is set differently for Obama by a long shot and you know it.

Why couldn't McCain have just said "my friend" instead of "that one?"

It didn't bother me much. I took it as a sign that McCain is ready to explode or something.
Now if he called Obama something that rhymes with Hunt, then that would be something worth talking about.

Apparently none of you read my comment. I said if Obama had made the "hundreds" of nasty remarks (not just this one) that McCain/Palin has made, Obama would be finished.
Like I said, the bar is set much lower for McCain than for Obama. Both Palin and McCain are making "MANY" disrespectful, deceptive and angry comments that Obama would never be allowed to get away with.

And you don't think they are finished?
They are completely, totally defeated.
Those dopes got schooled, Obama-style.

I'd compare this to basketball - its like Bruce Bowen and Steve Nash playing defense.
The refs aren't used to Nash playing physical, so when he does, they immediately call a foul.
However, for Bowen, he routinely punches people in the face, and thus the refs get sick of calling it after awhile. Then at that point, Bowen can get away with anything.

And yet after all is said and done, McCain is only down 6 points in the polls. Hardly a drubbing for a guy who has made every mistake in the book. People who support McCain have set much lower standards for their candidate.
They are not judging the candidates "equally" on any level. Obama's character, policies and intelligence appear to have to be so much higher/better than McCain. And even then it's not enough for a great many people. The standard seems off a bit. I don't know what crucial factors people are using to determine who would be the best candidate.

Your analogy is brilliant and scary. Based on this logic, we will also lose a heartbreaker. Someone will come out of left field after smashing Nash in the nuts and getting Amare thrown out of the game to make a desperation 3 at the buzzer. Maybe this is the year we get over the hump

Today is the first time in this election that I've felt confident. I don't know what political stunts McSame will try next, but each one has resulted in his looking more and more foolish. I think America see's right through all the crap he's pulled, even naming Bible Spice as his VP.

As long as he pundits cann their confidence in an Obama victory. The last thing I want is for them to start saying its in the bag for Obama like they did with Hillary. It really created a backlash and a rallying cry for Clinton. So please, pundits: STHU!
