HILLARY RAISES ASSASSINATION ISSUE
By Geoff Earle
May 23, 2008 --
Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.
"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.
Watch a video of the editorial board meeting here.
Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader's editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, "People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa."
Obama, the first African-American to advance so far in the race for the White House, has faced threats, sources have said.
Robert Kennedy, the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy, was gunned down in 1968 after winning the California primary. He had been a hero on the left for his civil rights agenda and calls to end the war in Vietnam.
Barack Obama, who leads Clinton by nearly 200 delegates and has already secured a majority of pledged delegates, has been the subject of threats. Early in the campaign, the Secret Service gave him a security detail at the request of Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois).
Clinton criticized an "urgency" to end the campaign prematurely, saying, "Historically, that makes no sense."

WOW. Are you ****ing kidding me? And I thought McCain had some loose-cannon brain-fart problems.
Shades of Vince Foster. She wouldn't only be the candidate -- the GOP will make her the main suspect.
I don't want this as my President.

This is the reason why Hillary will never be Obama's running mate. With Bill Clinton running about the West Wing, Obama would have to have a full time food taster.
She was saying, "why should I drop out when someone might kill obama before the election? pfft. Then were would we be?"
Really? You really think that's what she was saying? If so, wow...I guess I just have a hard time believing she would be that crass & utterly disrespectful.
I wasn't using that line of thinking at all...I'd love to hear her explanation if she's taken to task on it.
bobby kennedy was the big favorite to win the nomination - he was killed in June meaning the next in line had to step in
since things like this happen and can happen late into the process, why would she drop out in may and lose the opportunity to be the clear cut next person
this is the hillary i've come to know............

I'm sure we'll hear some kind of spin--and I've got to believe it really came out wrong. But in the context of what she was saying, that's what it meant. She was talking about why she shouldn't drop out, and then cited two examples of late-in-the-game decisions on nominees--one being hubbie Bill and the other being who ever was running against Bobby Kennedy.
