Here's An Honest Question

No matter the year or the things going on in the world.. Whether your a D or R, will you vote for your party no matter what? Even if the other candidate is superior? I ask because.. When I read some things and hear people talk.. I hear dumb things and it seems as though they are just spouting party jargon..

Allow me to dumb out for everyone for a minute, and tell a story.. And this is why I infuse gangs sometimes into my posts in this forum.. Only because I see politics as a common street gang.. So the story is.. When I was young.. I went to school wearing a fresh red Mike Jordan sweatshirt (the mid 80's).. Well, where I grew up, the color was blue.. And even though everyone loved watching Mike play, I got "talked" to about my decision in wearing that color.. It never happened again until I found out that line of thinking was BS.. But I see party sides having this same mentality.. They are so afraid to venture out and feel secure inside their own kind..

Why does this happen? And can anyone really step outside themselves and see the big picture when it comes to party lines..

Like I said.. Honest question..

As a lifelong democrat, McCain was my guy in 2000. Was never a big Gore fan.

Both parties suck so hard they could pull a bowling ball through 500 ft of garden hose.

Because people like to feel safe without having to do too much to guarantee their own safety. It's so much easier to blame someone else for their mistake instead of taking responsibility for our actions.

People don't like to make time to do the neccessary research to make an informed decision. They like to be told what to think and who to work for.

That is why every "job" I've ever worked in, I HATED. I hated the mundane, routine, repetitiousness of controlled thought and actions.

I am an independent contractor and I love the fact that I am in control of my destiny. Most people would probably love doing what I do, but they are either too afraid or they have been taught that the only way to success is to get a "job"

No - I try to vote for the best guy. The D / R used to mean something to me, but not anymore. Now, it's about the positions. There are somethings I agree with McCain on, and some things Obama. The D/R has nothing to do with it now.

Partially because most people don't think independently for themselves; because people feel more comfortable in larger groups than as an individual, and because that's the way it's always been done (TRADITION!).

You can step outside yourself, as you put it (I prefer to say being truly objective) and see the big picture.

Be warned, however, when you get outside of the nice little two party box, the big picture gets really messy. Kinda like a water color painting being left in the rain.

Like Cheese, McCain was my guy in 2000. I am a registered Dem, but if this was the same McCain in these debates I really don't know what Obama could do that would change my mind.

Now if McCain could give me some sort of a signal that he has just been "playing the game" the last 4 years and will go back to 2000 McCain as soon as he won the election, then I would vote for him.

I try to do my best to figure out my stance on an issue, then find out which person agrees closest with my view. Currently at the end of the day there ends up being a couple extra tallys on Obama's side.

But I do agree with you Gee!, too many people find comfort in the group and never take the time to figure out what they actually believe. Great question though, it always amazes me the number of people that blindly follow a parties ideals regardless of what is best for themselves or the country.

My vote ticket is always a mix of Republican and Democrat.

I can't think of a single election that I didn't have a mixture of candidates from all or no parties. Like most, I pick my side of the issues, prioritize them, and whoever I tend to feel backs my positions best I most always vote for.

I've been a registered Rep, Dem, Ind, Lib., Ind in that order. I think people too easily put a label on others around here. Most of us discuss issues we find important, but it doesn't cover the breadth of my beliefs. I'm socially liberal, I tend to comment the most on those issues. I'm not even sure anymore where I side with conseratives. The party I grew up with is gone and past values are only used as slogans, not practiced.

I would have loved for the opportunity to vote for Ron Paul, but I very much dislike McCain and can't throw away my vote. Obama is far from perfect, but he possesses many qualities I respect.

Id say growing up the way that I did, my views are pretty democratic. I voted for Bush the first time, and Kerry in the last election. I am voting Obama this time. I don't vote with my party no matter what.

If Hillary would have won, I probably would have voted for Paul. I hated Hillary. Although seeing Palin dance around and make herself look silly, I am finding a new appreciation of Hillary.

I vote Democratic the vast majority of the time because I share the views of the party. I could vote for a Repub in certain circumstances. I would say about 10 percent. What can I say, I am a maverick.

Palin is the greatest spokesperson for Hillary ever.
