Never before had a super Tuesday. Our system evolves all the time, without people shooting each other.
To all of you woe-is-me adherents, I disagree. As a nation, we always elect what we deserve. Every time. You may not like the choice but the people spoke.
And no president ever wants to fail or be a bad president. It's a horrible, thankless job.
Our nation will survive and prosper, regardless of who we choose. Always has and always will.
As an independent in Arizona, I don't get to vote today. I'll work to change that.
Those of you who can and do vote will vote your beliefs. That's why the eventual winner will be the one we deserve.
The world watches us today. The USA, the world's first democratic republic. Here's to us.

it is a great day but I disagree about the general direction of this country
what we deserve isn't always what is best - unfortunately the masses can put us all in a bad situation
and just because the nation can survive and prosper doesn't mean that long stretches of hardship are impossible - we've had enough examples over the past 100 years to prove this - even though the nation eventually recovered, it sure wasn't a lot of fun to all those who went through the pain
i agree that no one wants to be a bad president - but disagree that that is is a horrible, thankless job - there is a ton of power and prestige associated with it and for some it's worth spending millions to get there for that basis alone

1. Every day is a great day to be an American.
2. Many get what they "deserve." Many others are stuck with what someone else deserves for good or bad.
3. If everyone truly voted their beliefs we'd have a lot more options for president than what we have today.
I agree. It's not a perfect system but it beats anything else out there.
Plus even when the person you vote for doesn't make it you can at least say, "Hey don't look at me, I voted for the other canidate". I've been saying that for the last 7 years.

Ugghh...
Skkorp - I'm feeling you buddy... Today is a remarkable day. Even more so when you see that we have a woman (at least she says she's a woman...), and an African American as close to the White House as never before.
Osprey - "long stretches of hardship"?? Compared to what? To what other country? Do you believe that on this earth, there is a country, some place where you can enjoy the freedoms this country offers, the luxuries that are truly boundaryless, a way of life that is virtually unmatched anywhere else on the planet - but never suffer a downturn or dip? Are we supposed to assume that from the day we are born, life will always be a bowl of cheeries? We, as Americans will never face challenge or feel duress/"pain"?
C'mon man...

this is what we should strive for - absolutely
maximize the good - minimize the bad ..... anything else and we're just being lazy
i refuse to by into the defeatist attitude of "well downturns are going to happen - nothing we can do to really protect ourselves"
there is obviously no place I would rather be (or else I wouldn't be here) - but it does no good to just put on blinders to potential issues and strive for the best of everything

JMHO

I believe we live in the greatest country, in the greatest civilization, on the planet. Is it perfect? Of course not... there is always, always room for improvement.
However, I don't get my happiness from our gov't. Bush, Clinton, and the rest of 'em never have and never will dictate my state of being...
