I hope it's good news, but this is kind of weird. Why have a press conference if it's good news? Maybe to bring more attention to breast cancer?

Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be good news. I saw something on CNN last night that said something to the effect of "they're not announcing that everything is okay."

I think he's dropping out.

Not good--cancer has recurred, although they're saying they don't know the extent. But since Edwards is suspending his campaign, I suspect they know his wife's outcome is not optimistic.

It's a damn good thing for the Edwards that his wife isn't reliant on socialized medicine, and I don't say that to be a jerk, but it's a fact.

Cancer spread to bone. Not dropping out. Cancer is treatable, but not curable.

Keep a stiff upper lip Elizabeth. You can beat this thing. Good luck to you and your husband.

I'm glad to hear he's not dropping out, but man, that sucks.

He's my guy, I think ('cept I can't vote in the primary as an independent).

Not trying to be a jerk, but could the death of a spouse propel him to the nomination.

I think if it progresses that quickly he'll drop out.

He would. He did not decide to run until Elizabeth was given a clean bill of health last year.

People handle news like this differently. Apparently Elizabeth Edwards feels strongly that the best way to attack this problem is to act normally and not give in to the sickness. More power to her and I think John Edwards is showing a lot of class by conceeding to her wishes. He would probably like to spend every waking moment with her for as long as she has left.
