Can you smoke in AZ?
Bars, Cafe's, prisons? LOL
Ill. has passed a public smoking ban and I smoke. I'm not upset I don't blame people that don't smoke. I just wanted to know if you can smoke in AZ. If you can, I'm jealous.

Nope. No smoking inside.
Lots of states are starting to pass this, BTW.

It's great.
Mesa used to be the only smoke-free city, but the rest of the state has finally caught up to us.
Hope you're able to kick the habit.

Tempe was smoke-free before the state law went into effect, wasn't it?

Smoking should be banned permanently. There is nothing positive from this disgusting habit. If no one smoked, the cancer rate would drop dramatically and medical insurance would not cost as much.

Here's the smoke-free progression in AZ...
December 20, 1996: Mesa, Arizona
May 9, 2002: Guadalupe, Arizona
May 21, 2002: Tempe, Arizona
2005: Hopi Indian Reservation
January 10, 2006: Prescott, Arizona / Flagstaff, Arizona / Sedona, Arizona
November 7, 2006: State of Arizona

In Northern Arizona many cities passed smoke-free regulation as soon as 2003, but exempted bars and nightclubs for 2-3 years. Coconino County passed county-wide regulations in 2004. Several cities went completely smoke-free before the state did in 2006.

This is a good thread, but is there a reason it's in the Presidential Election folder?

I disagree. If people want to smoke they should be allowed to and their medical insurance already costs them more.
Having said that, I also feel they have no right to inflict their smoke on me, much like I have no right to spit all over them. Particularly when I am eating in a restaurant.
So banning smoking from such places is just defending me from smokers inflicting their smoke on the rest of us. Not sure I would have banned smoking from bars but unfortunately in the US bars are usually restaurants as well so its kinda hard to not ban them.
So smoking is fine, just not in places where you will inflict it on non-smokers.

Smoking has been banned in NV in all places that serve food. The thought behind it is that if you can eat there then you can have children there. Casinos everywhere except for the restuarant you can still smoke and many bars have stopped serving food or banned minors no matter what so that you can still smoke, drink, eat, and gamble.

This past November the University Hospital I work at banned smoking anywhere on the property. The campus is freakin' huge! It's sad to watch folks take their whole lunch hour walking to the edge of campus just to get a smoke or two in before hiking back. The nice thing is my employer will pay for any employee's patches, gum, stop smoking program, whatever they need to kick the habit. Very generous IMO and I always thought it was dumb to have smoking (even in designated areas) at a hospital so I welcomed the ban. Smoking doesn't bother me though, I stopped smoking on a regular basis in 1998, but a few times a year I may have one if the mood hits me, seems to be when the mood hits for a drink.
