"A Foreign Policy of Freedom" by Ron Paul
I've only just started this book (which is a collection of statements Paul made to congress since 1976) and I've already foundit immensly interesting. One thing I've found fun is that each chapter opens with a quote from an historical political figure...here are a few:

And, from Ron Paul in a Sept. 15, 1976 address: "It is unfortunate that our foreign policy has been so mismanaged that the American people now seem to equate a moral foregin policy with an interventionist foregien policy."
(I didn't use the quote tool in the Paul's quote so you, dear reader, wouldn't think I was equating him with the esteemed leaders of the past)

Sounds pretty interesting. I should probably order a copy.

Can't say that I disagree with at all with the collective sentiment...However, like so many "nice-sounding" thoughts, reality sometimes gets in the way and renders what first appeared to be so right, inadequate...
It's simply not realistic to hold "commerce with all, and alliances with none"... Great soundbite, but again, reality makes this impossible...
Hey, if you want to read great historical quotes, there are hundreds of books out there that can quench your thirst. Doesn't mean that any of them have any practical application to today...

The book isn't about historical quotes. I just thought I'd post them here because I found them interesting.

And indeed they are... I've often said how much I would have loved to be able to close my eyes and drop in on the world as it were in certain historical times... Time travel would be so damm cool!
I do believe there are lessons to be learned from such great historical leaders... Problem is, our more recent leaders seem to feel differently...

...and, I take back that the book isn't about historical quotes. Technically it's ALL historical quotes...but it's all RP. The "famous" quotes are simply topical intros to the chapters.

Problem also is, our economic status is in shambles and we've got some serious issues domestically.
Perhaps our more recent leaders feeling differently have had some measure of a negative effect?

What we are reaping now are the results of seeds planted long ago...

Yet we don't know how to treat those seeds as a sunk cost, and our economic health is hemorrhaging because of it.
