2007 ASFN Presidential Half-Assed Debate #1

Please review the rules for the debate:

Rebuttals to the arguments will then be presented by each candidate in the 3rd (final round) again 1 post each.

Afterwards the debate moderator will announce the 2nd topic, etc. etc.

Afterwards a "recap" will be permitted in which each candidate is allowed to give a final post...we'll just call this "The Last Shot."

This will give the candidate one last chance to explain/clarify his position.

This is a summary of the order:

    • Candidate A: Constructive Speech on the Topics (1 post)
    • Candidate B: Constructive Speech on the Topics (1 post)
    • Candidate C: Constructive Speech on the Topics (1 post)
    • Candidate D: Constructive Speech on the Topics (1 post)
  • Debate Moderator Presents the Specific Question
    • Candidate D: Question Response (1 post)
    • Candidate C: Question Response (1 post)

  • Debate Moderator Goes Onto 2nd Topic.
  • Debate Moderator (after topics have been answered) Goes into Rebuttal Phase.
    • Candidate A: Last Shot (1 post)
    • Candidate B: Last Shot (1 post)
    • Candidate C: Last Shot (1 post)
    • Candidate D: Last Shot (1 post)

As far as the audience participation - folks are asked to reply with only smileys.
Your three topics for this debate are:

1) Post Rating (1/5, 3/5, etc)
2) ASFN meet & greets
3) Sex & Alcohol

Each of you gets to provide ONE response to address the 3 topics posted above. When all the candidates have given their responses, I will then post the specific question to topic #1.

Thank you all in advance for abiding by the rules. Let's have a good, clean debate!

Biased media strikes again. Debate hasn't even started yet.

First of all, I'd like to say thank you for the opportunity to debate these fine topics with my fellow candidates, and would also like to express my wish that this debate stays civil and doesn't devolve into a foofaraw of hype, lies and general chicanery in an effort to win this "office".

Regarding the rating of posts, I understand that some people dislike it and I can easily see why. It is quite arbitrary with no guidelines, and can be perceived as simple post-padding. To be honest, it doesn't offend or excite me. As long as it is done in a manner that doesn't offend I have no issue with it continuing, and Ryan and DCR have come to an agreement where DCR will not spam Ryan with post rankings. This is a great precedent to set in the post ranking world. I would not want to see it done away with as it has become a part of the EE experience just like "your dead" and "*** **** *****." If I were to rate post rating, I'd probably have to give it a 2/5.

I personally love ASFN Meet & Greets though I've only attended a few of them. However, meeting the people behind the posts is always a great experience and a lot of fun. It is difficult to plan them, and that tends to lead to fewer greets than would be ideal. It would be important for us to look at ways to increase both the number of ASFN get-togethers and also the number of people who take part. As an aside, I've met 2 of my opponents in this race (3 if you count Jason and Pariah in two different meetings...I think I gave Pariah a Pat Tillman pin at SDS). Although I haven't met dotKen I'm sure more ASFN meets would change that.

As to the last topic here, bravo! Sex and alcohol are two of everyone's favorite things and play a big role in many topics on the board. Sometimes, threads such as KoC's beers around the world are able to combine talking about alcohol while showing pics of hotties and we need many more threads like this. Some of us choose not to drink alcohol and that is a fine choice and should be respected. Some of us don't get enough sex (or any) and that should make us sad. Enjoy the sex you get, when you get it...

So, to conclude, ASFN Meets, Alcohol and Sex each rate 5/5, while post rating rates 2/5.

Post Rating

The position I take on the so-called practice of “post rating” is simple:

It’s stupid.

Meet and Greets

I always look forward to the photos and stories that result on the board from ASFN meet and greets. It’s a testament to the friendships forged on ASFN that they remain true when people step out from behind their keyboards and can retain the same camaraderie in person.

ASFN is unique in that sense, I think. We may disagree about who’s the better wide-out or how important it is for Josh McCown to be able to dunk a basketball, but we’re all friends at the core.

Plus, beer is generally involved. So, we got that going for us.

Thank you for your fine response to the topics, Mr. Dogg. I will await the other candidates' replies (time's a wastin', folks) before posting the first question.

Thank you, Jason/Pariah. Your responses are much appreciated as well. We still have 2 candidates to respond.

Very nice. Jason gets the edge on this issue.
