Tuesday Voting...

Considering modern life and all the problems we've had in recent elections, is it time to modify our voting process? Currently we vote on Tuesdays and only on Tuesdays. Should we allow voting on multiple days and/or weekends?

lol...its bad enough the media onslaught we get for coverage after one day...

I rather have one day...I'm not proud enough to choose which day however.

I have to vote no. The taxpayer cost for multiple days of voting would be tremendous.

What they should do is ease the restrictions on mail in balloting. Having to do it a month in advance is frequently unreasonable. I think the last step in voting is on-line voting, but making it secure is the issue.

Good post.

There were a lot of voting questions I was thinking about posting...maybe I'll do another one later in the week (maybe "What is the best way to increase voter participation?").

I say keep it to one day a week and make it a federal holiday so everyone can vote. Maybe move it to the fourth of july.

I would also think we can get technology to work for us to make it more convienient. People do their banking on the web. You should be able to vote online as well. That way, no lines, no excuses.

I like this but not on the 4th make a new day so we dont already lose one of the fewer and fewer federal holidays that we already have. I drink on the 4th I dont wanna drive.

Now, if we can just come up with a plan to screw the democrats and keep them from voting then we will really be cooking.....

I like your thinking on online voting. I wonder which party would benefit the most from that. Would it be the Republicans who are more rural (and might have a hard time getting to polling stations)? Or maybe Democrats, who are typically younger (and more comfortable with the technology)?

I think, and im not trying to sound like a basher, that giving more days to vote would kill the 2 party system. The democrats are hanging on by a thread and if voting was on a non working day or a weekend even more people who lean to the right would be able to vote making the races even farther apart.

I know most of my family misses voting because of work now and then. But unemployed people can vote anytime. If I leaned to the left I would want to voting hours to be cut to 7-11:59 in the morning and 1-5 in the evening on monday.

People on the left are unemployed losers? Is that what you imply? I think that is luducrious and complete hog wash.

I think you are way off base...

an extra day would allow more people to have a chance to vote, and puting those votes on the weekend should allow for even more people to get to the polls from either side of the party. College students and workers would have a much better opportunity to vote.

Multiple voting days? Sure, another excuse to close the taverns. This is just another plot to bring back prohibition.

.

I think unemplyed people make a small minority of the left. However I have never known an unemployed person lean to the right. So I would imagine that 95% of people unemployed are left leaning.

Now my point isnt which party has more unemployed. My meaning is that opening up voting to more days would only help the repuiblicans. Maybe ONLY is too strong a word but it would help the right far more than the left imo.

edit: and lets face it liac. Does the right need anymore help than the DNC platform already gives it? <small jab> lol

Don't you think the Republican party is a lot more organized than the Democratic party right now? Wouldn't an extra day give the Democrats a chance to get their stuff together a bit more?
